Shimano GRX levers vs calipers Compatibility
Hi,
I wanted to know if the following combos would work ? So i have a 2014 ridley x-fire that i am slowly upgrading parts as they wear out/brake. I am now at the point where i am upgrading the stock mechanical brakes. I wanted to keep th existing 2x10 105 setup so i found out shimano makes a hydraulic brake kit that is 2x10. My dilemma, i want to use the shimano grx rx810 disc calipers but use the - shimano st-rx400 levers, would these 2 work fine ? Even though the levers are designed for 2x10 and the rx810 calipers for 11 speed, would the 10 speed levers work ? My other question is, could i keep the existing 2x10 front derailer its a shimano 105 5700 if that helps, thank you very much for your time and help.

The st-rx400 levers won't work with the 105 10 speed rear derailleur. GRX 10 speed uses 11 speed cable pull, so only a GRX, Tiagra 4700 or an 11 speed road rear derailleur will work. The rx810 calipers will work fine.

Why are you looking into 2x10 GRX specifically?
if this only thing you want is go from mechanical brakes to hydraulic , then latest tiagra is your friend. It can take easily cassette up to 36T
the only advantage grx has is the rear derailleur clutch and might allow bigger cassette (up to 40T in 2x). But at the front it uses smaller chainring and the mech does not move like a classic road mech.
