Garmin Ant+ HRM Strap Alternative?

I now own my 3rd Garmin HRM strap where I cannot get the screws out of the back of the module. I have 3 different 'Precision Screwdriver Sets" (down to 2mm and/or PH0 Phillips heads). They are too big. A 1.4mm flathead kind of fits but I still can't get the screws out.

I am tired of collecting functional Garmin HRM's with dead CR2032 batteries. What is a decent HRM strap alternative (ANT+)?

Thanks.

A 2mm Phillips works perfectly, I just changed the battery in my Garmin HRM for the second time a few days ago. Got over a year out of each CR2032.

I have read that, but the 2mm Philips that I own doesn't even 'bite' when you try to use it. Have no idea why that is ("Husky 6 Piece Precision Screwdriver Set"). The 1.4mm flathead is the only thing that 'bites', but I can't get a screw out (and I do rinse my HRM strap after every ride).

I bought a Garmin ANT+ strap from Asia, shipping can take a month, opens with a coin. Similar to this one.

While looking for above, this one is in USA and might need a new battery.

I've been happy with the Polar OH1. Not a chest strap, but when I had my stress echo done a few months back I wore it and the numbers seemed to align well enough (same peak, slightly delayed, but generally within 1-2 bpm). Rechargeable battery, strap seems solid. I wear it on my tricep and usually within a couple minutes I forget it is even there (did take some time to find the right balance of tightness to keep it in place and looseness to make it feel invisible).

I just ordered a Wahoo from Amazon - had no idea that non-screw Garmin's existed. We'll see how the Tickr works. Should be here tomorrow.

The first time my Garmin battery died, I took it down to Walmart and asked the lady at the watch counter to unscrew the cover. She was able to with her screwdriver, and pointed out it was from a set that was displayed there. I bought the set and replaced the battery myself the next time.

Just MHO, Husky and precision don't go in the same sentence.

I actually have 3 different sets of small and supposedly precision screwdrivers (flathead and phillips). But nothing that works on a Garmin, AFAIK.

I bought at 4iiii HRM last year to work as an Ant+/BT bridge so I could run Zwift through my iPad. Excellent product and you can change the battery with a coin.

Garmin has 2 types of hrm band. The premium one and the "cheap" one.

The cheap one opens with a coin. I've been using it since January 2013 and it's been flawless. Still on its second battery.

I see no reason to purchase the premium band.

I also have a Decathlon Ant+ band and it works OK as well. Also opens with a coin.

Been using my Tickr for over 5 years now, batteries last most of the year each. Easy to change. I'm on my third strap. I'm giving thought to the TickrX next time.

I got the Wahoo TICKR several days back. It is pretty much a one for one replacement for the Garmin - at least based on early usage. I did not have any trouble getting two different (Garmin) computers to connect to it. And the flashing LED could be handy if there was a connection issue and you weren't sure which end of the system was the problem.

I am assuming that when the time comes, the coin sized screw slot will allow me to actually replace a dead battery using tools that I own which includes 3 (all different brands) 'precision screwdriver sets'.

My Garmin HR monitor battery died before my ride yesterday. I use a cheap all-in-one screwdriver from Home Depot that has #000 , #00 , #0 & #1 philips driver bits. The thing works great for Garmin and other devices that use very small screws. Had the battery swapped in a minute or two. If you already have a Garmin strap and want to stick with it this is a lot cheaper than buying a new strap.

You can use a quarter, or similar sized coin.
