At Sellwood cycles, never seen a nice original one for sale. If it were any bigger, it would be with me now.

57.5 cm, $950, I would facilitate if needed.

Better pics at their website.

Monostay, also. Glad it is too big.

I'm having a lot of trouble letting too small stop me, luckily I have half a dozen other irons in the fire to keep me distracted, for now.

And not just any monostay, none are just, but Andy's own design proprietary version, as well as seat lug and binder. Somewhat quirky to be sure but very unique and reliable despite the naysayers.

Is that bike mid/late-80s? Do you know? There is an older gentleman who rides with his wife on an old Davidson tandem out of Murray Hill that had a red Strawberry that he had made for him. He joined me years ago on a ride around Hagg Lake and I've seen him, occasionally alone but usually with his wife and hung with them many times. If that was his bike, it's a sweet ride. No, I haven't ridden it, but you get a feel over 60 miles.

Sad if it is his.

It looks 90s to me. Carbon fork, internal shift routing, monostay, 631 decal. Plus the parts kit, if original.

He had the monostay. I saw the "chrome" on the fork and didn't look further, thinking "steel". I was thinking the decals looked too gaudy. He loved that bike. I hope he rides it a few more years.

Those headtube extensions to fit oversized cartridge bearings are an Andy Newlands thing for sure.
a little klunky in the style depth but I am sure work.
this frame seems to have many other Andy signature elements, the mono stay - the interior seatpost binding bolt... a tour de force.

that bike at the price seems bargain time.

Andy embraced Stronglight and then his own design roller bearing headsets after finding Campy's a pita and lacking. Many early frames with the monostay and front binder have Stronglights before he went to his own. I have an 85 with them.

Interestingly he went back to Campy once he integrated his own cups, apparently apples and oranges.

So that is a 1" steerer but the adapters allow a much bigger bearing? or is the steerer 1 1/8? What is the purpose of the oversize bearings on a road bike? I mean I use the Ritchey Logic with the OS bottom bearings a lot but mostly because it seems like a good quality for a decent price. I know MTBs the bigger bearings take more abuse but are they needed on a road bike?

Sorry to be the naysayer in the group, but that head tube is an unmitigated disaster. I mean it, I've never seen a more clunky front end of a bike. Brrrrr....

Don't disagree per se, but it is what it is, Andy excelled at doing it his way.

Seems like the Campy headset helped dictate some of this

Again, it is what it is, you won't find another in this shape anytime, anywhere soon especially at a reasonable price like this.

I have lusted after a Strawberry for a number of years. Met Andy at the Handmade show when it was in Portland a number of years ago. He was pushing his tooling.
If that space wasn't between the upper bearing mount and the lug, it's appearance would be a little more palatable! Yeah the mono stay is definitely a differentiator.

He has executed the enlarged bearing headtube with a better but still challenging aesthetic to those with a different expectation.

in this case I think there was a binary need to raise the handlebars without going to a giraffe stem of some sort.

A stroke of genius on the part of the bikeshop when they added those orange pedals to distract us from a certain, um, lack of grace, in the rest of the bike.

Interesting bike. The was one at the Velocult C&V show, but I think pink with strawberry graphics. Unfortunately, that one had a crack. I think the crack was in an awkward spot to repair, but I don't remember exactly where. @gugie? @jyl? Nonetheless, it was a beautiful frame.

Are those integrated headset bearing cups, or bearing holders? Kind of cool design with the bearing cups over the crown.

I tend to agree with you, DD......
Quite a clunky looking design that kinda takes away from the elegant details on the rest of the frame. Like the Stronglight Delta headset approach much much more, instead.....

I think that one had a cracked DS chainstay, that guy couldn't get over the cost to repair, I think chrome was involved, compounding the problem.

Andy used the Stronglights before these for quite awhile, see post #9 , then decided on his own version.

It was obviously a work in progress, the Campy headset seems an odd choice, maybe it was the challenge of incorporating it, I'm pretty sure he had his reasons, he certainly didn't care what we would think a couple decades later, function over form I suspect.

Aesthetic be damned.

I recall the crack was in one of the chainstays.

They sure are beautiful frames.
