I had an FSA garmin mount for a while now. It worked great, but looked bulky and was heavy as hell. I wasn't dissatisfied with it, but when i came across this fliploc I was intrigued. It is STUPID light, weighing 10g! It feels very secure and does not vibrate. Does not need a garmin mount with bands since it is built into the piece. I like the looks of this one and has a nice short compact reach. This is the STD fliploc and appears to be the last one they have that fits only the 200/500 garmin. It has been replace with the STD-X which now fits the 800. This means it has a slightly longer reach to fit the larger 800. I REALLY wanted the original to keep it short and compact but they said that it had been replaced and no longer made the STD. About a week later they contacted me and said they had one sent back from customs and I could buy it if i wanted. It was $30 which was more than I really wanted to spend but now after getting it and having it in hand, I can tell you that it is VERY nice. There are cheaper options out there for sure, like I said, there was nothing wrong with the FSA mount I had.

Yes. I've got the fliploc for my 500 and it is fantastic. Very light and doesn't scrape the back side of the unit.

If I have coffee before getting on the bike, it probably makes up for more than the weight of the mount.

Having said this, that is a nice piece.

As someone who is interested in getting a Garmin down the line, what, may I ask, is wrong with the mount supplied by Garmin?

Is it just that it mounts directly on the stem? Or is it just not as secure?

The garmin mount is plenty secure. It is a location thing. I mounted mine on the stem clamp. Probably only possible with a steel it titanium pinch clamp:



because the clamp lines up with both radiuses on the underside of the mount it is rock solid.

There is nothing wrong with the mount supplied by Garmin. I used the stem mount for months. BUT, mounting out in front of the stem (via fliploc for me) made it much nicer to view. Especially when going downhill or when standing going uphill.

I have the K-Edge on my road bike and the Bar Fly on my hybrid. I like the way the K-Edge works better. It gets the unit farther out and lower.

I dont like the barfly at all. It puts the gamrin high and at a weird angle. The K edge is a nicer piece for sure. The advantage I found with mounts like the FSA is that you can mount the garmin as high or low as you want and still position it level or at an angle if you like. The reasons I wanted to try the fliploc was because it was 1)light as a feather. 2) seemed to put the garmin at a lower position and still be level 3) I liked the looks of it better than what I had.

Like I said earlier, there are several options for garmin mounts available. I have tried 3 and though there are very strong advantages of having the FSA type, so far I like this fliploc the best.

As thirdgenbird mentioned, the garmin mounts that come with the device work just fine. They are secure, they are free and they just work. Having them on an aftermarket "in front of the bar" style mount puts it in a position that I prefer. I wont say its better because not everyone likes it out past the bar and not everyone cares. Its a personal thing.

Interesting texture on that mount. I kinda like it, but I have already invested on K-Edge mounts for all my road bikes, so that is what I am sticking with.

I have to wonder what the performance / longevity of that type of mount (3D printer etc)... especially compared with the CNC of the K-EDGE

Had a barfly and a K-edge, sold the barfly and bought another k-edge. I'm sure the fliplock is lighter, but the k-edge wins for looks in my book.

I've got the Garmin 500 and use it with the supplied mounts, and it works fine. A problem for me is that placing the Garmin on the stem puts it right where I drip sweat when out of the saddle or in the drops on the trainer. I don't think it bothers the Garmin, but it bothers me.

I don't like how far out the Garmin sits with the sRam. Besides, I have shimano components, so I can't cross brand like that. That would be like wearing adidas socks with Nike shoes!
