When you think of French bikes...

... the yellow of a very old, poorly maintained, formerly white peugeot.

Next would be my black and red motobécane.

It would have to be the white with black trim Peugeot PX-10's of the 60's and 70's.

Green of the Motobecane Mirage that sat in my project Que forever and I finally completed and sold in the spring of 2018, then again I really loved the blue of the 80 Peugeot UO-10 that passed through my hands

I've read it all, it's black and white
The spectrum made any shade I like
The crimson rays are ruby bright
Technicolor light, ow
I want red, there's no substitute for red
Red!
Paint it red, green ain't me compared to red
You don't know what it does to me
My crimson sin intensity
I'm haunted by the mystery
The mystery of red
Knocks 'em dead
Some like it hot, I like it Red
Red is my lover, got it covered
Red is my number, sure is a comer
Red is my drummer, and I hear red thunder
Move over brother, Red's a mother
Ow

Ah Red! Red!
Red! Red!

I used to think white with great looking decals, as on the Peugeot UO-8. Now I think of a nice French champagne...

Kelly green

I picked up 3 high end French bikes this past year: a 1982 Peugeot PXN 10, a 1977 Motobecane Grand Record, and a mid 70s Mercier 300 in kelly green. I love the bike and I'm looking forward to rehabbing it; this is the bike as I found it:

I think the Gitane gold of the early 70's is stunning if done right.

A white PX-10 from the early 1970s is arguably the classic French look, but my red UO-8 used to look pretty sharp, as well. When I worked at a Peugeot/Nishiki dealership in the early 1970s, everyone seemed to want a white UO-18 or UO-8, although the limited-run "champagne" color sold out very quickly, as well.

That's because it was the "Team" colour. Then, as now, people would come up to UO-8 owners and ask,"Is that a PX-10?".
