Hello,
This is my first post. I've been following the C&V forum for the past 4 months to get help on my vintage --> STI referesh. Thanks to all of the posts here on bf and more specifically the C&V forum (and the motivation from this thread), the end result of a bunch of work and research has led me to the following:
1985 Nishiki Sport Frame
Dura Ace 7400 8spd Gruppo (minus brakeset, cassette)
Shimano R600 Long-reach Brakeset
Ksyrium Elite 700c wheels with Continental Ultra Gatorskins 700x23
Nashbar Integrated 1" Threaded Carbon Fork
Profile Design Threaded to Threadless Adapter with Nashbar Stem and Road Bars
Thomson Elite Seatpost
The weight comes out to about 22.35 pounds. Gotta do some more work on it (heavy pedals!!), I'm expecting around 21 pounds when I'm done.

My Vintage Ride
Vintage:
Full custom Columbus SL Frame, Lugged and Silver Soldered except forks (brass), Campagnolo Dropouts, Cinelli bottom bracket shell.
Galli Tapered Roller Bearing Headset.
Shimano Dura Ace 7410 Seatpost
Selle Italia Turbo Saddle.
Cinelli 1R Stem.
Cinelli Giro Di Italia Bars.
Campagnolo Super Record F/R Derailleurs.
Suntour Superbe Brakes.
Shimano Dura Ace 7300 Brake Levers.
Suntour Superbe Crankset 53/44 172.5 and Bottom Bracket (English)
IKU Digital Self Powered Speedometer.
Sedisport Chain.
New:
Ksyrium Elite Wheelset.
Vredestein Fortezza SE Tires.
Shimano HG-90 12-23 8 Speed Cassette.
Campagnolo Super Record Brake and Shifter Cables.
Planet Bike Blinky and 1/2 Watt Blaze lights.
Shimano PD-M520 Pedals.
Originally equipped with Mavic GP4 rims, Super Record hubs and cassette and Modolo Kronos Brakes cost $AU 1600 in 1983. The frame was built by Karl Giessauf, a master frame builder who built wheels and frames for the Australian Olympic team and had a two year waiting list at one point for his frames. The wheels were stolen in 1993 and the Kronos brakes got dumped for the Suntours as while they were light and looked fantastic they didn't actually slow the bike detectably when you pulled on the levers.
I've since done another round of upgrades with new derailleurs, brakes and levers but don't have pictures yet.

Oops, I forgot about that. It is running a Shimano SIS system now but I haven't taken another set of photos yet. Still running DT shifters (not a big fan of brifters) but I am using a set of SL-R400 8x2 shifters with Ultegra SL front and rear derailleurs. Works great as an eight speed system although the chain clearances are a bit tight (I have an HG-93 ready to go when I can get the time). I've also replaced the brakes with Ultegra 6600 F/R and R600 levers. A lot cheaper than going full STI and I keep the classic look of the bike.
DT shifting isn't so bad when you can just give it a quick flick and go back to the bars. I'm okay with friction shifters but with the close tolerance cogs it was easy to get the chain over the top of two and have the cranks skate forward a half turn. I did that a couple of times climbing hills and nearly came off.

Integrated shifters is the whole point of this thread though. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice bike, but it just doesn't really belong in here.

Agreed, I really should have posted this to the "Your Classic & Vintage Rides" thread. Any chance a moderator could move the post. Do I have to report myself ? :-)

Dura Ace 7400 with 9 speed Ultegra Shifters. A WTB ad on local Cl and $50 later is all my conversion took, and some new cables.

This has had its own thread, but here it is anyway, a ´95 Pug Comp 500 with some upgrades (9 speed STI and a carbon fork)
A very nice machine to ride. Am enjoying it hugely.

beautiful bikes everyone. i'm seeking advice on how to moderniize my 80's mino denti while keeping as much of the vintage look and feel. emphasis would be on simplicity and keeping cost down. she's mostly campy victory, ambrosio elite rims on campy hubs, generic stem, cinelli bars./Users/daniel/Desktop/DSCN3174.JPG

Hello,
This is my first post.

Thanks! I initially had the rear wheel forward more but the minute i got on it (was a little excited to do the first pedal) it popped out of the drops. I freaked out and pushed it ALL the way back. The guy at the bike shop that was helping me out clamped down the quick-release so I don't know how hard he had it on. Later in the day even with it way back in the drops it still moved forward, I was over it at that point and just tightened it down as much as I could way back.

This doesn't quite fit the brief, but you'll be interested. My Raleigh Royal tourer, with the drivetrain replaced by Shimano Nexus 7, from a hybrid (plus the fenders and rack from the same bike). Shifter is currently mounted on the stem, while I figure out if that works for me, or if I want to spend more money.

Here's my new Greg LeMond. Purchased as a frame and fork, no components (with a Campagnolo sticker along the left chainstay), and "converted" to nine-speed 105.

My recently completed 1980 Rigi Criterium with an assorted Campagnolo group and Gian Robert front derailleur thanks to Bianchigirll. It is EXTREMELY fun to ride.
