1990 Bianchi Mondiale (Columbus SLX) 55cm
AND SOLD! (To a Belgian girl at that... MERCKX HERE I COME!)
Up for grabs is a pretty slick restoration of a 1990 Bianchi Mondiale
I did all the work myself, any questions are welcomed. This took close to six months to complete and collect needed parts. Turns out I actually prefer a larger size. I've been riding a 59cm Mondiale and determined that size is more what I like.
1990 Bianchi Mondiale, Columbus SLX
I've ridden this bike a whole 15 miles since rebuild, but I rode it hard to make sure it's safe and good to go. I weigh about 180 and am 5'11" and am not easy on bikes. If it would have broken, I'd have done so. (See broken seatposts, snapped handlebars, etc )
This is a vintage bike and of course my greatest efforts can't make it magically become a time capsule piece. These are the only known issues with the bike.
OK. I think that should cover it!
Old price: $1200+shipping and any applicable fees
$1100 shipped! (to US lower 48, else extra)
Subtract the following if you want a higher discount and aren't picky on certain aspects of the restoration:
-subtract $200 to substitute Dia Compe AGC calipers for the Deltas, keep both sets of levers
-subtract $75 to replace the Veloflex tires for new blackwalls
-subtract $75 if you don't need the Brooks or celeste bag
In other words, you could have the bike for $750 shipped!
Local pickup/test ride in Dallas, TX welcomed
Would consider trade for a Merckx MX Leader or Corsa Extra 56-58cm
Cross posted, will update immediately if status changes.

- 55cm, per Bianchi sizing
- Columbus SLX tubing, entire bike was chrome plated before painting.
- Campagnolo Croce d'Aune group (except the included C Record Deltas that are lighter and generally better, and the hubs which are Athena)

- new cables, housing, wrap, grease in all greasy parts, Veloflex Master 23c tires, tubes
- Campagnolo hubs, Campagnolo Omega Strade Hardox 700c clincher rims
- ITM 400 Bianchi engraved stem with ITM Mondial bars
- Bianchi celeste saddle bag with levers
- Brooks B17
- pictured test ride pedals are not included

- I have no idea why, but the right hand side seat tube decal is missing.
- The front hub had some very mild pitting. I replaced the bearings with grade 25 and lubricated with Park Polylube. It should be serviceable for many years to come.
- I trued the wheels, but despite my best efforts, I started rounding two spoke nipples on the rear wheel. Because of that, it probably has a 1mm wobble that could be easily addressed after the nipples are swapped out. Since wheel true was my last step before mounting tires and riding... I decided I could live with it!
- I placed a thin soda can shim in the interface between the bars and stem. While it was perfectly in tolerance, I didn't want to risk a fracture at the stem.
- I also placed an even smaller shim (30x30x.1mm) in the seat post seat tube interface. Reason being is that I noticed a hairline vertical stripe in the paint on the seat post collar. Just to be on the safe side and not stress the collar, a shim was placed. The post is perfectly tight and does not move while riding or if you attempt to by hand.
OK. I think that should cover it!

I did a search on the Team Kelme paint scheme and that sounds very appealing to me...

Well, let me take some pics of that for you. I have 4 Merckx bikes and NO Bianchi's, so perhaps we can work out something. Boy, after all that work you did, just to find out the size isn't right for you. Sorry.

That is a good looking bike. I wish it was a little bigger.
I'm looking for the same SLX frame set in a 57 or 59 to replace my slightly too big 1989 Giro frame.

Ooh, boy. My size and everything. This is really checking all my boxes. Someone remind me that I don't need this.

while you're sure to get more responses in the "inquiries and appraisals" forum, I can tell you bit about the Strada LX.
It is going to be a made in Japan Bianchi, mid grade tubing, entry to mid level components. All that said, it would be a solid rider and is a nice bike. If you're thinking of selling it and it's in OK shape, you could probably get around $200.

Brakes i left the original for now i was thinking to put ultegra 6500 in that bike 9 speeds brifters but because i have one greg lemond 2002 steel frame and one cannondale R300 i try to deside finally what bike is better i upgrade. I not have deside yet. But i do like the way the bianchi ride even is heavy bike.
