@wphamilton, I still remember the roll-down test you did for backpacks vs racks. Have you ever done any testing of the effectiveness of your fairings? Or smaller types of fairings? I'd be interested to know if there's a useful point of diminishing returns where a small fairing could be used to get a substantial portion of the benefit of a full fairing.

Several years ago. The situation I found was the other way around. Small fairings gained me little or no aero benefit, and the closer you are to a full enclosure the better it works. An inch or two too wide or too tall definitely is pure extra drag though.

I am tempted to put a crank-mount motor in it, which would be truly annoying to traditional roadies.

I never do this, but hope (wish) no one does that to me: spitting or blowing snots. It's the most disgusting thing.

I regularly go through red lights when there's no, or very little traffic, that is when I'm not obstructing, or even disturbing the traffic at the intersection.

Your question was a long time back, but I didn't ignore it - I just didn't see it. With the small handlebar fairings, I was just gathering data along with prior art research, to see how feasible they were, whether they'd suit my objectives, and it was a year or so before I built a full fairing. So I didn't post here, I don't think I even kept the data.

It's not really new, mostly confirmed by now and by the design of commercial fairings.

That fairing doesn't really annoy fellow commuters - I still get asked about it if I haven't been on the bike for awhile. I'm probably more annoying these days with my random "Good Morning"

I have a 4 way intersection that uses cameras to change lights so if nobody is around at 12am all 4 lights are red, have to go through that redlight every single night, and I'm always worried about it lol.

I kid, I kid...
I saw it several times, so what in the wide world of sports is "shoal" or "shoaling" in a cycling context?

Not sure if this one is taken yet but -

Riding on sidewalks and using crosswalks (caveat: this is ok if you're walking your bike)

Because motorists see enough cyclists that run stop signs and red lights, some decide, rather than get into a collision, to be proactive and give up their right of way for the cyclist approaching the stop sign. So in return the cyclist calls the motorist a "nicehole".
