Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

So, I've found I'm a bit of a complusive tinkerer/upgrader, and the combination of that along with the Craigslist bike section has lead to a pretty serious change in my bike. Change as in the only things left from the original bike are the seatpost, stem, and the handlebars. For now - I have designs on replacing those too, just have to wait for the right deal to show up. Through selling my old stuff, I've been able to do this (reasonably) on the cheap too.

I'm especially proud of this bike, as I've found just about every component separately, and built it from the frame up myself.

Frame/Fork - 2006 Specialized S-Works M - team colors
Wheelset - American Classic hubs, wheelsmith spokes, aerohead rims
Drivetrain - Shimano Ultegra SL 6600 - shifters, derailleurs, compact crankset, cassette
Brakes - Tektro Oryx
Seatpost - Easton CT2
Saddle - FSA K-Force Carbon
Stem - Profile Design Hammer OS
Bars - Ritchey Pro Bio-Max
Interruptors - Cane Creek
Pedals - Candy SL

It weighs 19 pounds on the button as seen in the picture with pedals and a computer.

I'm going to be using this as my only bike - I've decided to sell the road bike and put the money into this bike instead. I've got my eye on a 4za python fork, and if badass pedals/stem/handlebars happen to pop up on Craigslist for super cheap I'll pick them up too. It'll be a road bike until it's time for cross, at which point I'll take the pretty Ultegra SL off and replace it with the following 9 speed setup for the fall. It's all pretty ugly/beat up, but that's sort of the point - there's no weight penalty, and I can thrash the already ugly components.

Ultegra 6500 shifters
Dura-Ace 7700 derailleurs/cassette
FSA energy 48/34 crankset/bottom bracket

I has two. My Gunnar Crosshairs is defintaly my frontline do everything bike. My breed is for more bar hop, playful, I want to take my cx bike to some nasty mtb trails bikes. I love most everything about both of them as they are finally dialed to my liking.

Sorry I don't have a full bike shot

I noticed a trend here that I'm going to take issue with (in a fun way- it really isn't that big a deal).

Some posters have made a point of complimenting images of dirty bikes, the reasoning being that they (give the appearance that they) are being used for the style of riding specific to this forum. Some of you have deliberately waited until your bike was raced to photograph it (or at least posted the photos of the dirty bike).

Why? It's a bike thread. I understand the sentiment, but the overwhelming majority of these bikes are unique in some way or another. Mud? Well, within bounds of reason, it pretty much all looks the same save Southern red clay , and it tends to make the bikes look the same, too.

Funny, funny. I have the same reaction. I used to think the mud chubby shots were from people that live in a city or don't get in the dirt much. Or it's just a bike forum tick like posting and enjoying pictures of x-rays or scabs.

It points towards something; not the bike itself.

Thanks knobster, I'm having a blast with it. My roadies are all suffering from severe neglect at the moment, but the Redline is giving me a lot more enjoyment right now. I can't believe I waited this long to take up cross!

No burps, but I haven 't raced them yet. The ride quality is pretty great though, and the SSCs are a lot easier w/ the tubeless setup than my Ritcheys were.

the latest version of the Surly Cross Check. Put some Geax Barro Race 700x45c and a 40deg power tool stem. I need some Midge bars or Wtb mountain Drops. Also, I am going to put an Ultegra triple crank on.

OK, Finally going to jump in with my Mongoose. It's the Croix Comp... yeah, I really would have like to get the Elite, but we were in the process of buying a house so... Nonetheless, it's worked great for me in centuries, MTB trails, whatever. Even raced it. Believe me, it was the motor holding *it* back.

Changes?Couple of different wheelsets (Bontrager Race, Mavic Cosmos), larger cassette and very old Deore rear deraile r. Works like a dream. In the works: new handlebars, and Kool Stop brake pads. Maybe swap out the 50t chainring for a 46. That's it.

TCX and Trek are awesome, as are the others in this thread. Those two I just like especially.
