Good Trails in LA area or by La Jolla, SD?
Hi everyone, I'd like to ride my bicycle more often outside over the summer, and will be in LA and San Diego for different months; I was wondering if anyone had some trails or pathways they could recommend? I have a mountain bike currently, but am looking to get a roadbike soon, if that makes a difference

la is a vast place...is there a particular part/area?
la jolla is more of a roadie area with spectacular coastal riding
up to oceanside and back, down to point loma/sunset cliffs and
back and some solid climbs (watch the pavé on the descents in
in la jolla). there is also the hwy 56 bike path which navigates
east/west fairly close by. mtb stuff has the peñasquitos canyon
state preserve which is scenic and fun and should keep you busy
for at least a handful of mtb rides.

Depends on what area.
LA / SD is huge.
Can you be more specific?
Griffith Park north of downtown LA in the Hollywood Hills has some great dirt fire roads as well as paved roads with decent climbing and moderate/low traffic.

Near La Jolla you have Rose and San Clemente canyons, Penasquitos along with various and sundry areas a little further out from that point. SDBC rides from UC Cyclery on Saturday mornings, there are a few MTB riders among them that I'm sure would be happy to show you show of the trails. They also have several levels of road rides if you have a road bike in tow (or rent one). Feel free to PM me when you are closer to getting into town if you want to meet up.

A ride around San Diego bay is nice. All paved. You ride down the east side of the bay (kind of shipyard industrial, not so nice), then go up the west side (nice, serene) to Coronado, then take a ferry back to near downtown San Diego.

If you're based in La Jolla the round trip would be about 50-60 miles.
