I never rode one prior. I don't know how much better an even higher end steel frame would be - but this bike is buttery smooth and stiff at the same time and is fast on the flat lands.
I've set just about all of my segment PB's on this bike, including two overall flat segment KOM's and a few top 10's. The 23 year old bike is proper fast.

One of those old Peugeots got me into road biking. It was a GREEN 1971 Peugeot UO8. A friend returning from college sold it to me in 1974. Within a year I was riding a PX10LE and never looked back, Just kept on riding. At the age of 68-1/2 I'm still doing 7-8,000 miles a year. Now I have my Grandkids for riding buddies.

My 2014 Salsa Vaya has started a new life as an ebike. The Tongsheng torque sensor mid-drive conversion was successfully installed last year and is working well with the steel framed disc brake bike. I,m now over seventy and still enjoying the ride.

Just finished repairing my 2009 Sequoia after my crash last year(snapped crank and subsequent other damage), got in a few rides, but just this morning I picked up a 2016 Roubaix for $400. First Carbon Fiber, will be curios to see how it compares to my Sequoia in terms of comfort. Will post some pics when I get it cleaned up.

All cleaned up, everything seems tuned pretty well at least on the rack. Ready for a test ride. Does need a set of tape and some road tires ;-)

The guy I bought my Roubaix from had put some cheap-ish blue tires on it. Someone here said it looked like he tried to make it a gravel bike. It makes sense. He told me he was selling it to buy a gravel bike. The Roubaix can ride on gravel but can’t use tires wide enough to ride on loose gravel.
