Yup, track's been out of commission now for a few years (decades?) and seen the effects of what repeated Texas summers and winters will do to metal rails. This is just down the line from the location of the first recorded train robbery in the state of Texas actually.
I've really been enjoying my dSLR, if you couldn't tell. I would like to upgrade the body probably some time next year, I purposely bought a lightly used older model on the cheap to keep the price for entry down till I decided if it was something I wanted to stick with for a while (like I did with an 80's Schwinn Traveler oh so many moons ago that landed me here). The XSi is a great camera for day hikes and walks, but when the light levels drop and I have to start turning up the ISO the limitations of the body really start being obvious.

Finally got the new set worked on. Still a few tweaks to make on a few till I consider them print worthy, but most are about as good as they'll get.

3 years ago, I met a club of people who love vintage bikes and took some pics. Since then, I fell in love with classic and vintage bikes

Wow, impressive shots none the less. Please post another thread with info and bike pics on your club, I'm sure most of us like to see that. I'm gathering all kinds of morsels on Indonesian cycling life as well to make a nice article. It's just great to see all these cycling cultures around the world IMHO.

I take a good photo once in a while. I think I have 10,000 saved photos I like at least three of them.

FT, some of my favorite photos of all time, especially the third one. Post production, it should be used sparingly like salt and pepper. You don't want to hide the original taste.

@Italuminium: Thank you but I'm not a member of that club. Every weekend, they gather by the big lake in the city. Sometimes I stop there and take some pics.
Most of vintage bikes there are French. There are some beautiful Mercier and Peugieut. This Mercier I think the fork is not original.

Phenomenal photos in this thread, thanks to all for sharing!
@candid - is your "cheap old Chinese camera" a conventional medium format film camera? Are you scanning the negatives directly?

I think parts look the best when they rise up from darkness, but lighter backgrounds are easier to control. I've been shooting under a light-diffusing dome for a long time now...

BTW, predates C&V a bit, but check out: Side Trips: The Photography of Sumner W. Matteson 1898-1908, Louis B. Casagrange if you get the chance. Matteson cyclotoured the US southwest and west coast by safety bicycle around the turn of the former century, with a Kodak travel view camera bolted to the frame. Beautiful late photos of Native Americans and pueblo dwellers, as well as stunning landscapes. There's a photo of him descending a mountain pass with a pine tree branch tied to the frame to help slow the downward momentum. The book looks like it had a small printing run, has been out of print for a while, used copies are findable online.

Every once in awhile, I'll get a decent pic out of my little Sony Cyber-Shot:

Yes, it's a Seagull camera, a replica of the famous Rolleiflex and Rolleicord. I bought it quite cheap but sometimes it made me surprised.
Mine look similar to this. I scan my film directly from negative films.
I use variety format of camera, from 135 to large format. I am going to buy a Timbuk2 snoop bag to carry my View Camera on my bike.

Great pics all. I really need to improve my lighting options for indoor shots. I did recently purchase a 430EX II and have a defuser for it, but it can still be difficult to control when shooting polished metal. I'd like to get a small lightbox for doing such stuff, but haven't taken the time to build or research purchase options enough to get one.

You can make a shooting box for small parts by picking up a sheet of Fome-cor at a framing shop or artist's supply store.

Classic and vintage does not mean useless. I took this photo by my Seagull at my friend's wedding. There were some of hired photographers there, they used the modern and expensive DSLRs. At the end, the couple like my photo most. It's like I race on a cheap vintage bike with a group of racers on their full carbon road and I won.
That's why I appreciate classic and vintage.
