I'm not trying to be hateful, but I think bikes with leather look so much better when the saddle matches the bar tape. That and bar end shifters would make this my dream bike. This is a super nice.

I agree. In this case, black seems the especially obvious choice. The natural looking brown tape just doesn't go the more artificial green shade of the frame.

Yeah, you guys are right about the bar tape. But the biggest problem is the new Brooks leather tape is junk. It has a shiny plastic coating that makes it look awful. The older generation tape would have looked a lot better.
I used it because I had it lying around, but I am going to change it. I'm also on the lookout for some bar end shifters.
The bike rides really nicely; it'll make a good touring bike, I think.

Hi everyone,
Here's my '92 Bianchi Project 5. I'm not sure what this bike really is - I know what it was when new, but am not yet sure where it's going to end up. For now, it's a semi-vintage 29" mountain bike with generic randonneur bars and big goofy touring tires, and it's fun to ride.

early Univega drop bar conversion
My first conversion. Gevenalle 7x3 shifters, mini v brakes, Kenda tires. ride pretty well on pavement. Im taking it on some fire roads tomorrow for the real test

We're blessed to have so many beautiful places to ride here - sometimes I feel like I'm in a TV commercial! I really like the DTH tires - they are light and supple, but have little or no flat protection. Sort of a poor man's Compass RTP.

I have a DTH on my city bike and have never flatted, for what it's worth.

That's what jswhit@fastmail was saying: it's a poor man's RTP because they're both relatively thin road tires with no flat protection, but the DTH isn't as fancy. The "no flat protection" wasn't implied as being what made it a "poor man's" tire.

Ok so technically it is a "hybrid" frame but I think it shares a lot of the same sentiments of the bikes in here.

Stunning! Some really nice components in that build - looks like Paul brakes, Cambium saddle and White Industries crank. Love the tires too - what are they?

I have 2x11 Gevenalle shifters on my gravel bike and love them. The front friction shifts are quck and accurate. The rear havent missed a shift(when shifting has been properly tuned) and I actually switched it to friction mode once when i screwed up the cable pull mid-ride due to hitting a stump and rocks.
Really, the placement of the shifters is easy to use and quite intuitive. The ability to angle the shifters depending on hand size and bar shape is really nice too since it ensures each person can get easy full use while riding on the hoods.
Siesta- so you got the ones where you add your own shifters…Audax version?...what shifters did you use? Those look like old 7speed 105sc shift levers, but that’s just a guess.

I've been on the wait list for 5 months waiting on an update on when those shifters will become available again. Wish they'd get more on the market soon, I'd like to try them out myself.

These shifters are simply Tektro R520 long pull brake levers with a machined piece to add downtube or bar ends shifters. They have a website for their products
