They just sound really gritty, almost like I'm riding on gravel. Or is it my front hub? It's my first set of tubulars, my previous experience with high quality tires is Vittoria Corsa CX clinchers with the file tread, which are whisper quite. Google turned up nothing, so I'm thinking it might be my front hub. This is on a new to me bike with a slightly reworked front hub.

I did hear that with my Corsa tubs. It eventually faded away. I think it's the sticky compound picking up small bits of gravel from the road when new. It might be good to "age" them a bit before riding them to minimize them picking up gravel worse, glasz or thorns that could cause a puncture.

I can’t speak to Vittoria Corsa ribbed tubulars but can speak to a very rare ribbed tubular that isn’t made anymore (at least not in a road version) - the Continental Sonderclasse. These emitted a pleasant humming sound while rolling down the road, not unpleasant at all.
I have a new set of Vittoria Corsa ribbed open tubular clinchers new in the box down stairs but I have not ridden them yet. I’m too busy enjoying my Challenge Criteriums with latex tubes right now. When these wear out I’ll try the ribbed Vittorias next. Quite a few of the guys in my bike club are running these ribbed Vittoria Corsa clinchers and I thought they said they like them. I’m anxious to try them myself to see if I get to re-live the joy of those made in Germany Continental Sonderclasse cotton tires that were so sublime...

I don't know but I find myself too busy huffing and puffing to notice.

Went to the tire shop (LBS closed and I have a credit line if needed there) and had my inflation checked, the guy found a bad valve and replaced it free of charge.
My huffing and puffing feels better now.
