The Rise and Fall of the British Empire

Used to be there was a distinct line between popular history, and the serious work of academic historians.

That line has been blurring, if just a bit. I don't read serious history any more, I am just too old. So I picked up The Rise and Fall of the British Empire without any expectation I would actually buy it. It's brilliant, but it's basically popular history, and quite entertaining.

I've only just begun, but I am looking forward to reading more.
