Addiction LXXIV

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I get HTML first, and the it snaps to normal, both on my iPhone and iPad.
Annoying, but only in a first world way.

So, during my recumbent decade, I purchased numerous sets of Shimano DuraAce 9 speed bar end shifters because they were junk and would break frequently. They would come with downtube shift boss adapters for terminating shift housing. I had no use for them and probably threw away at least 6 sets when we moved.

Now, I need a pair for my current bike project.

Well, I did something doubly stupid today. It's a sad commentary on "progress," but it's no longer safe to run in my neighborhood. When I was running 3-4 years ago there was minimal traffic. Because of development and traffic, I have had too many close calls with cars. I spoke with a neighbor who is a serious runner and he has totally stopped running on the roads nearby. My road is actually quiet but running up and down the same street (1/4 mile long) is kinda boring after a few repeats.

So I got in the car, drove a mile to MUP, and did a run. Drove home.

Doubly stupid? Stupid squared?? I probably should just ride my bike there but riding bike in running shoes seems even dumber.

I hate riding in non-cycling shoes even when riding my Surly, on which I have relatively large pedals made for SPD cleats. And then there would be the issue of a bike lock.

Yeah, but I still may consider doing this. I do have an old steel frame SS beach cruiser BSO with fat tires and a coaster brake. It's a POS and unlikely to get stollen (sic) since I would leave it near the trailhead which is at the East Whiteland Police/Township building. I may just try that.

I was over in the "Introduction" forums and replied to a guy who said he was returning to BF after a hiatus. My post said, "Welcoe, Hoe"

Got to find that other keyboard, soon.

As a neurologist, I'd want to look at your right index finger function.

That was predictable. Never throw anything out, despite what the better half says.

As a neurologist, I'd like you to look at y wife's hand before she has CRPS if she doesn't already.

We are going to see her orthopedist in an hour and I'm ready to kick his but or at least fire him. It's been over 6 months and my wife's hand still throbs and buzzes to the point that she's almost in tears at ties. Her orthopedist hasn't sent her to any nerve specialists or even a hand specialist. He just keeps saying that it will probably go away. I think his time in y wife's service is pretty much over. We'll know in an hour or so.

I feel your pain. Sad.

I must admit I have mixed feelings regarding my absence from cycling the last couple of years. I was ill, for sure, but there was also a healthy level of reluctance to put myself in harm's way by riding on the roads. People are just too distracted when driving now days.

So sorry to hear! I thought she was getting treatment.

Much as I love my fellow neuronerds, I think the best approach to that condition is multidisciplinary and heavily reliant on rehabilitation, supportive care, and getting phone calls returned. Is there a full-scale pain clinic available nearby?
