What Does Your Username Mean?
Mine is not as obvious as it seems.
I often introduce myself on the Forums as “Boston…Jim from Boston.”
As a corollary,
There is a thread on the general forums about this, but not in the 50+ group.
I was just curious about our usernames. How did you pick yours and what is it's meaning to you?...

Boston…Jim from Boston. D’uh.
Actually, besides the simplicity and utility of that screen name, it has a deeper meaning. I’m an avid radio talk show fan, and when I (rarely) call in, I’m introduced as Jim from Boston (…”and now here’s Jim from Boston. What’s up Jim"?).
My nickname on the thread "Metro Boston: Good ride today?" is JfB and a sophisticated BF subscriber on that thread once addressed me as ”James de Boston”; wished I had thought of that.

Just this morning on the 6-7 AM segment of the Jeff Kuhner talk show on WRKO, he discussed proposals by mayor Marty Walsh to decrease the speed limit in Boston to 20 mph, and increase the number of bus and bike lanes. He was vehemently against it, as were many of the callers, with snide comments about cyclists.
I called in as Jim from Boston “speaking for 'Boston’s cycling community' ” [since I knew I would be the only cyclist calling] and introduced myself as his Number One Fan among Boston cyclists. I made two points: bicycles are entitled to be on the road, and the more cyclists, the fewer other cars, and the more parking spaces available.
Jeff was pretty gracious, but I (accidentally) got cut off. Afterwards, he made some reasonable remarks about my call, but took me to task to speak for Boston’s cycling community, as “another protected class.” (Another WRKO talk show host, Howie Carr, once referred to us as Spandex-Americans. )

When I first signed up for Internet access (ATT dial-up), I was allowed one email address, which I wanted to share with my wife. I mashed our names together and found I was the 55th or 56th user with the same combo - philbob55. ATT corrupted my initial ID, so I set up another. By that time, #56 had signed on, so I became 57.

I'm a fan of the Boston Red Sox and had a bit of a crush on their former shortstop Nomar Garciaparra. So I'm his girl but he doesn't know it and my husband just accepts it. I've been his girl longer than Mia Hamm has. 😇

Test riding a bike
I would have recommend my LBS, Back Bay Bikes in Boston and Natick, or Landry’s, with four locations including Norwood....
Seeing that you post from Easton MA @NomarsGirl, I can’t resist posting off-topic about two memorable rides I have done there, FYA:..

Thanks. I am getting it from Landry's....
Nice pics of my hometown! I am very lucky to have scenic places to ride leaving from my driveway. If I head out towards Sharon, there's a loop ride around the lake and a good places for coffee or ice cream. Lots of cyclists around here.

I have heard that Nomar got his name as the reverse spelling of his father's, Ramon.

I joined a road bike club in 1989. With 500 members a lot of us got nicknames, lots of Johns, Mikes, Daves, etc. Being the largest John, they named me Big John.

Paintball team when I was in college.
We were the "Four-Eyed freaks", but Martin got contacts, and KaMaR got lasik, so we had to choose a new name - The "Iron Nerds".

Someone called me this on an old AOL forum in the dark ages of the internet. I've been using it ever since on forums for all kinds of stuff and it always seems to be available.

First name followed my middle and last name initials. Not very creative, eh?

h2o-xtc makes inference to my first love, waterskiing. Although in the last few years the bikes are seeing more time than the waterskis, I hope to stay active on the water as long as I stay riding - time will tell.

As you might expect. The charts put me on 56cm frames, I ride 58-60cm.

It's a reminder of when I was 50 lbs overweight, with swollen calves/ankles (cankles -- you can't tell where the calves end and ankles begin) after being on my feet all day for a few days. Congestive heart failure and diabetes run in my family, mostly due to diet and sedentary lifestyle.
I changed my diet, started exercising again and lost 55 lbs gradually over 10 years, most of it after resuming cycling in 2015. But I kept the old moniker as a reminder.

Mine is fairly obvious as well. In about 1976, the first seriously light(for those days) racing style bike I owned after years of torture from a Schwinn Varsity! A Kabuki Diamond Formula with 12 speeds, WOW!!! I had never seen a 12 speed bike before. It was the only one in the Kabuki line up that impressed me, and after a test ride , I never looked back. I gave the Schwinn to a close friend who needed a bike.

Back in the dark ages, UNIX logins were limited to 8 characters. My last name has 11 characters, 7 consonants and 4 vowels, so I just took out the vowels.

It’s my assigned username from my employer before I retired: Harris Oncology Nursing Unit + my initials. Whenever a website wanted me to choose a username I automatically used this one instead of getting personal and creative. Now I wish I could change it

Mine is an important bicycling skill. I had to use that skill in earnest the morning of the day I signed up on Bikeforums. I narrowly missed getting clobbered by a mom driving a carload of kids who drove through a stop sign; she just looked at me in disgust and 'gave me the finger'. I'll never forget that incident.
Its also the second time signing up on BF. Back about 2011(?) the BF supreme leaders closed the accounts of everyone who would not verify their authenticity by submitting some formal documentation (it was a homeland security requirement?). I didn't agree with that, so lost my old account. A few months later I tried signing up again and it worked!

Mine is my wife's nickname for me, Johnny Ace. Also somewhat loosely associated with this song by the Squirrel Nut Zippers:
IRL, I'm quite less creatively named John Jones. One of two, I believe, on BF.

My name is Bernard but no one has called me that since Mrs. Fostler in third grade. Friends call me Bern, sometimes Bernie. When I signed up here the handle Bern was already taken though no one using that name has posted in many years. I'm thinking of mounting a presidential campaign as Bernie already gives me name recognition.
