Centurion LeMans 12 Mixte

Any info appreciated. I'm guessing it is 1984-1985? Good components. Fairly light for a mixte, Needs all the usual parts and servicing. Got it in a complex 3-way deal so it ended up costing me $15.

You got a great deal. It's got the painted headbadge. It's got the old time Tange Champion tubing sticker. Suntour bits. An absolutely lovely bike. Not much wear. You're probably right about the vintage being around 1985. Personally, I would convert that to an upright cruiser with new handlebars, stem, grips, brake levers, thumb shifters, rear rack, tires, etc. Spend about $150 - $200 in parts and have a really nice city bike. If you just want to flip it you could probably get close to $75 as -is. It's not one of the top Centurion models but that is one tough durable bike that will last a lifetime.

Thanks! If it fits my wife I will probably keep it. I believe it is the 21 inch frame. Pretty sure now it is a 1984. The 1983 had stem shifters, and the LeMans 12 was only made in 83-84. See below from the '84 catalog. Downtube shifters on a mixte seem to be quite rare. Mercier and Peugeot built them. That's all I've seen.

Otherwise, I will just get it road ready and sell it. You're right. Mixtes make great city bikes with a few additions.

Mixtes are not just for the ladies, those who need easy mounting on a bike, and older people, those with physical challenges, and even the urbane like Mixte frames, and they make ideal City bikes. This example is nicer than most Mixte offerings but few, and scarcer than a normal diamond frame example. This one is urbane chic. And it's beautiful!!

I picked up the same mixte recently for $15 as well. Thought I had a slam dunk. It needed clean up, tires, tubes, bar tape, saddle, cables, housings, all bearings serviced, chain, etc. You will need lever hoods. Anyway, I finally sold it, took a while, got $130 for it. After expenses, I really made minimal money on it. At least it was a net positive, but well below the $100 margin I was used to. Hopefully your market is better.

Now as an addition to the family fleet, its a no brainer.

This is how the market has changed. Used to be a nice mixte like this was $200 to $225. Sold one several years ago in that range.

Yeah, I recently sold a decent Fuji mixte for $125.

I got this one as part of a 3-bike $100 deal. After I sold a few parts from the other bikes, and bought all the stuff this one needed, I was out a grand total of $8. I can live with that! My wife loves it and it fits her pefectly.
