I generally prefer the somber side of country, which is not the side in this song, but most country musicians don't have this guy's talent.

Smoothest horse that I ever had the pleasure of riding for a day was a half Tennessee Walker and half Thoroughbred gelding. Man that tall beast could lope as smooth as a Cadillac all day long without hardly breaking a sweat.

This Luke Bryan song definitely invokes memories of my younger days of pickup trucks, dating, and Saturday night outdoor parties.

Yeah, I was thinking that when I was posting that video. The song pretty much glossed over what life on the road was like for many on the down and out.

Just thought of a popular 90's bar song by Garth Brooks.

Not quite pure but it's good stuff to American musical history aficionados. These are the band's earlier '30s versions of these. The second is a cover of the 1928 song " Keep Knocking and You Can't Get In" by Boodle It Wiggins. Little Richard and probably more than a dozen other artists have covered it in recordings.

Same kind of Western Swing from the ever evolving band of the same name but from the '50s. Influenced by and influential to more than one genre.

.....................................Merle Haggard mastering an instrument

Jimmy Rogers aka the "Singing Brakeman" (not to be confused with the black Chicago blues artist of the '50s & '60s) is considered the proto country artist of the late '20s & early '30s. There are 3 versions of this by him, with two different lyrics. This is the one I remember hearing first. I like the lyrics in this one best but he has some better supporting instruments included in a couple of the others.

...........................Gawd that's red hot!

A couple of traditional pieces by the late great Merle. The first is a cover of a Jimmy Rogers / Louis Armstrong song.

http://dippermouth.blogspot.com/2015/07/85-years-of-blue-yodel-number-9.html

Here's some history on that one. An American classic......(but not hardly classical)

And this one with a similar instrument melody is a somewhat risque spinoff from an old Bob Wills tune of about the same time-era.
Happy 4th of July.
