Day 2 completely smoke free! Now it's 3!

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Day 2 completely smoke free! Now it's 3!
After my ride up Lookout Mountain, I decided at the top that I needed to shake this 33 year smoking habit.
Day 2, completely smoke free! Unfortunately for the wife, this has been me all day today ------>

Stick with it. Your lungs will thank you, and at about $7.00 a pack you can start piling up new bikes in your garage with the money you'll save.

You can do it. And always keep in mind that THE CRAVINGS WILL GO AWAY! In time you'll hardly be able to believe that you used to puff on those things. Don't listen to anyone who tells you that the cravings last forever, they'll go away in time.

In a million years I'd never guessed that you were a smoker. I wish that I could be as much an inspiration to you to quit as you have been to me on my weight loss quest.

Congratulations Tom… I’ve never had to quit myself, but my father had to do it after 30 some odd years, and said it was the toughest thing he had ever had to do in his life.
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but with all your other health problems, and smoking on top of that, it is a miracle your not dead…
Whether you believe or not, I will say a little prayer for strength for you tonight. Best of luck and keep up the good work.
My father found help in peppermint...

Good on ya Tom! I managed to kick that habit five years ago. Just remember that every day, every hour, every minute you DON'T start back up; you are a non-smoker for that extra minute, hour, and day. Besides, who wants to go through all the trouble of quitting again? You lost all that weight, this is nothing. Hang in there and if you ever need words of encouragement or tips, please pm me and I'll be happy to help.

If you really need it, there are some medications out that help. My mom has smoked steadily for the past 17 years (she stopped when she was pregnant with me, and then again with my younger brother), but just recently she started taking one of the newer medications that are out. She has completely stopped. I'm very proud of her. I believe she took Chantix.

Tom, best of luck. I'm sure you don't need any more scare stories, but let us know if you need support. I personally have never smoked, but have had some truly horrid experiences from smoking.

Good move man!
I just lost my uncle Gordon to lung cancer and he was only 56. It took losing him to get my sisters(ages 29 and 25) and their husbands to quit smoking.
Stick to it and don't pick up that nasty habit again.

It's possibly the hardest thing I ever did, so I feel for you. But it's also one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment. Best of luck to you.

I smoke socially although I've been very good about avoiding tobacco in the last year. Every once in a while I'll have a cigarette or two at the bar. I only smoke Nat Sherman naturals which have no additives and actually smell like real tobacco. Plus they are like $8 / pack which discourages me from smoking them in the first place.
I smoked a lot more back when I dated smokers. And yeah, laying off the cigs when you're used to even just 4 or 5 cigs/day makes you cranky as all get out.
When you feel like a cig, go for a short ride, have sex, do some push ups, whatever it takes! Once you get through the first week though it gets much easier and you feel much better.
