Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Know Any Rides/Routes Around Ashville, NC?

I am going to be in the area on business actually but want to take my bike. Does anyone know of any good - easy to follow - routes of about 30-50 miles or so?

Thanks!!

They're all good.

I'd do Mitchell, myself, but that's probably 30 miles away - you'd have to drive to the base of the climb.

Try and climb highway 151 to BRP west of asheville. Really anything on the Blue ridge parkway is great.

get Road Bike Asheville.

https://www.amazon.com/Road-Bike-Ashe...4157221&sr=8-1

The ride from Asheville to the top of Mt Mitchell is 35 miles almost all up.Good part is the 35 miles back is almost all down.

Ox Creek Plunge, in the book is also very good. 33 miles relatively hilly

The Rose Garden loop is only 8 miles, but very scenic and a good tour of Asheville.

Also check with the people at Liberty Cycles.

I'd definitely do the 70 mile version if he had time, but it sounds like he doesn't.

When I'm riding out of town, I check MapMyRide. There are usually quite a few decent public rides if you search, especially in places like Asheville.

I'm going to be there August 13-16 while my wife sits in a conference. All I can do is ride while she is in her meetings So, since I am going to be doing the six gap in September I will want to do some serious climbing on Thursday and Friday to help prepare.

Having never been there it sounds like there are plenty of options. I'm looking forward to this already!
