my new 2012 jamis coda elite.

i just picked up a 2012 jamis coda elite (21") earlier today. before i left my LBS i had them change out the stock pedals for some odyssey twisted pedals (in clear), added some full fenders and two water bottle holders. soon as i got back home i put my serfas RX seat on the bike. i put about 6 miles on the bike so far, i have some more riding and tiny adjustments to make (seat height and position, handle bar height, etc). i plan on going for a pretty long ride around NYC saturday to put the bike through it's paces, probably 30+ miles. i'll report back with a little review. in the 6 miles i rode today so far, i really like this bike.

here is the bike before i left the shop today:

We have the same saddle. Much stiffer than other comfort saddles, but adjusting it to the right spot will make it pretty comfortable.

yeah, excellent seat in my opinion. it's a great mix of sporty and comfort. i'm so use to the RX seat, the factory san marco seat felt like a piece of plywood.

here is a comparison shot of the two (for people who aren't familiar with the serfas RX:

Great color, the stock saddle on my '09 Coda was terrible in the comfort department.

Nice ride, enjoy. what tires do you have on that in the pic?? I got the 700x35 Vittoria Ranndonear Hyper tires on my Giant Roam 0 Hybrid below and realy like them. I also run the Vittoria Ranndonear Pro tires in 700x32 on my Co Motion Touring bike, like those tires as well. The Pro tire is a little lower pressure speced than the Hyper model tires in the same comparable sizes 75 lbs max on the Pro tire and 90 lbs max on the Hyper tire.

Ride Safe,
Bill G

thanks man, those two bikes you posted are real nice. this coda elite is my first new bike in about 13 years.

i have the vittoria ranndonear in 700x32. i'm not sure which model, but the tire pressure is 75psi max (maybe the pro?).

how do you like the vittoria ranndonear pro's in 700x32? how are they against flats?

Not bad on flat protection from post I have read about them on the touring forums. I run MR Tuffy tire liners so it is not fair for me to give an opinion but they ride and perform nicely.. The pic's of your bike look like you have the Ranndonear Pro tires already in 700x32 that is why I ask.

Ride Safe,
Bill G

update: after dialing everything in just the way i like it, the bike is excellent, i'm very happy with the purchase. my biggest ride to date has been about 60 miles (this past saturday). here is a pic from that ride (the G.W. bridge, about 30-35 miles into the ride):

i recently added some forte kor bar ends and i'll be adding a cateye strada double wireless speedo on the bike (within the next week). i'm getting ready to do a century in about 4-5 weeks.

p.s. one thing i'll add, i had to get use to the carbon fork and how it behaves under heavy braking.

What's the difference, if I may ask? I'm about to graft the same setup onto my (non-disc) Coda and any additional information is a good thing.

under heavy braking with the disc brakes, the carbon fork flexes, so much that i originally thought the fork was loose. i checked the fork and it was perfectly seated and tight. i looked down while i was braking and i noticed the arms of the fork flexing. this is my first bike with disc brakes and a carbon fork. i don't think you'll have the same amount of flex (or much at all) using V-brakes. the V-brakes attach high up, closer to the steerer.

Great bike! I just got the 2012 Comp and really like it. I have even changed out the seat to the same model you have. Here is a picture of it before I changed the seat, you can see the Cateye double reciever. The LBS is going to give me a credit on the seat toward a set of clipless pedals. I've got about 500 miles on so far.

I'm curious about the bar ends. Could you post a closeup picture of them and let me know how you installed them? They look like they are nice and comfortable. Thanks.

That seat looks like the front is tilted up too much. Have you tried with the seat more level?

That picture is about three weeks ago, I have replaced the seat since then and leveled the new one. I tried everything with the original seat, and it didn't work for me.

I ride an 07 Coda Elite that I bought new. Love that bike. If I could only have one, that one would be it. Zero problems with it since I've owned it. I'm guessing it has somewhere around 5 or maybe 6000 miles on it now, which is not a lot, but would expose flaws. Enjoy.

As far as saddles go: Selle SMP is all I ride now. I am spoiled.
