rim tape flat
guess I moved the rim tape when I mounted these tires. had more than a cpl rides on them, surprised it didn't flat sooner. the plastic tape wouldn't go into place easily or stay put. it was hard & formed to the rim shape. I decided to change it. glad I had a roll of nice thick cloth tape with me
wasn't hard to find the puncture

I like the plastic tape idea, but I find the Velox tape much easier to use, and it seems to stay in place better. Only drawback is it's not re-usable.

Can't say I carry rim tape with me, but it's a good idea. Never occurred to me before now.

Good point. On my folding bike with 20" wheels, I occasionally break a spoke. The rim tape has to come off to replace the nipple, so I wind up replacing the tape. On a normal wheel under normal conditions (all my other bikes, for example!) the tape lasts the life of the rim.

You can use a dab of tubular glue to help secure the overlap back down.

I haven't found that to be a problem. You don't need to completely remove the tape to replace a nipple; just lift it enough to slide the old one out, maybe a couple centimeters on either side of the spoke hole. And there's enough residual adhesive to hold it in place after you're replaced the tire.

Likewise, I've had no bugger up like that..
I have gotten to like fused loop stiff plastic rim tape... it comes off without adhesive,
For the rear wheel of my single wall Brompton rim,
I made up a shortened rubber rim tape to put beneath the stock plastic loop, not a flat caused like that , cause, so glaringly obvious,
but it cured what was causing my rear flat.
....
