Birthday Ride With Local Legend!!

I had the pleasure of riding with a local legend and a few others from the High Point, NC area this weekend. He turned 82 years old last week and we rode 82 miles in honor of his birthday. He has recorded a very

The legend is 4th from the left. His Granddaughter is beside him in he red jersey.

Enjoying post ride cupcakes!! The legend is beside his granddaughter.
impressive 11,600 miles for this year!! His longest ride in one day was 211 miles down to Cherry Grove Beach, SC in October. If the weather is agreeable you’ll generally find him out riding 60+ miles just about every day.

We started riding NE of Lexington, NC (pork BBQ country) and headed south and then circled back west and north. We made a couple crossings over High Rock Lake on the way back. The route was just enough hills to know you’ve ridden a few. It was 4000’ of hills which is very typical for piedmont NC. It was a nice December day to ride with 40-50 degree temperatures, sunny skies and not too much wind.

In honor of his birthday we suggested he stayed off the front and let us pull. But he even jumped out in front of our group on the homestretch and pulled us in to the finish.

He has passed his cycling passion on to his granddaughter who is pictured beside him and organized the ride. She even brought cup cakes to enjoy at the finish.

We all admire our fellow rider for his cycling accomplishments and know he has many, many more miles left in him!!!!

Sounds like a fun time had by all.

Have no clue if I'll make 82 much less 72 so I'll ride like I'll be dead tomorrow. Wasn't going ride today but just aired up the Roubaix and will begin shortly.

The granddaughter was brought up properly. Cupcakes are essential!

Very inspiring, I look forward to retirement so I can double my mileage.

Wow...that is very impressive. I'm 70 but doubt I'll ever ride my age again. Congrats to the "Legend" and for you guy to hang in there with him!
