I have no idea what my max HR is. My Z2 HR, based on power, is about 118-135 bpm. 18 mph on a level road on a calm day is ~120 bpm.

What do you guys use for HR for zone 2? What percent of max HR? I thought riding at 140bpm was a good zone 2 for me but then I looked online today and it says 65 to 75% of max heart rate, and that would be 147 to 160bpm. Isn't that really fast for zone 2? Max is 195bpm. I rode 1.5 hours at 140bpm and then did an hour or so climbing hills at a very high HR.

I typically "ignore" heart rate but I have my zone 2 set according to Coggans chart, 68-83% (118-146) of LTHR which I have set at 174

good luck with the defense, I've been stuck in dissertation status for over a year, I moved away from where I'm in school and it's been a pain working with some committee members virtually. But I made a breakthrough with my analysis so I should be on track to finish this spring. I'm even writing an abstract to present at an annual conference. I've clearly spent more time riding than researching, but i want to finish so I can ride guilt free!

Been back in the gym lately. Adding weight almost every session. To the exercises; I haven't had the courage to step on a scale in a few months.

Weird week with the penultimate hill climb on Thursday, so despite a good 80mi ride yesterday I wanted a little effort.

On tap for 16hrs this week, starting with 3hrs z2 tomorrow morning b4 work. I never have any idea of where to aim as far as %FTP goes for these kinds of rides. This is where a coach would help.

Bike shop intervals after work. 6th shop had a matching set of black spokes. After hours for the shop my bike is at so I left the spokes in the secret electrical room. I hope I have a bike again by Thursday. I'll sign up for the Mt Hamilton climb if I feel optimistic.

Rest week, feels well-earned after 17, 21, 21 hours the last three weeks. (base 2)
Ironically I have this week off work, girl is out of town part of the week, and I'm not doing any family stuff. But I'm still gonna ride only a little and eat and sleep a ton.

1hr super easy. 30 for 30 is on netflix, time flies on the trainer.
Do you guys count calories during rest weeks or do you let yourself indulge a bit? I'm trying to stick to calories in/calories out +-100cal but I'm finding that I'm just straight up crazy hungry. I'm eating smaller meals through the day and drinking a lot of water. Basically i'm not sure if this is just because I'm used to eating ~3500k cal/day and now I'm eating ~2300cal, or if I actually still need the extra calories for proper recovery.

FWIW, yesterday I did about 1:30 at the lower end of Z3 by power. Average HR was 123. Temperature was ~50* F, wind was ~15 mph. I maintained power within Z3 regardless of my direction of travel - lots of variation in speed, though. HR increased slowly to 134 at the end of the ride.
