Bought a new bike!!!
Well...not for me! (NO TH, THE LYNSKEY AIN'T GOIN ANYWHERE!)
PhotoJoanne and I have been riding quite a bit together, and lately PhotoJoeDaughter has been wanting to tag along. I LOVE IT! However, she's had a pretty hard time keeping up on this:
Her heart is there, but the gearing just isn't. The time has come. The riding season is here and she wants to be out there with us. We want her out there with us. But, at the same time, we need to be getting good workouts in if we're going to reach our goals. So....we've been looking for a VERY small road bike. We tried the 24" Pinerello, and something just wasn't right. The geometry is just odd. She sat on a XXS Amira and that wasn't going to work, either. Then she sat on a 44cm Dolce. Keep in mind she's TINY. This one showed hope. So, being the "generous" guy that I am , I went to work finding a used bike in her size.
I contacted a friend who I know has a smaller road bike for his son to see if it was time to upgrade. Nope. Not time yet. Probably another couple of years for him. BUMMER. It's a sweet bike. So the search went on. About a week ago, I got a message from him saying they've been to the lbs and it's time to go to a bigger bike. For some reason, he blamed ME for getting them thinking! Anyway, the 44cm was for sale. We agreed and this morning, PhotoJoeDaughter and I put the rack on the truck and headed South. We drove through two fruit-checks and I think crossed two international time zones. Just when we thought we had reached the end of the earth, we turned East and kept going for a few more parsecs. We finally got there, and there it was....and PhotoJoeDaughter was sooo excited. A quick test ride confirmed that all my research was right and she (almost) fits on it. OK, it may be a TINY bit too big for her, but we'll feed her a couple extra portions of spinach and it'll all work out. I think the stem is a 100, so it may get replaced with a 70. Otherwise, she's golden...and loving it. Can't wait to get her out on the trails with us. Then again.....now I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up. I may have to lock out a few gears to keep a competitive advantage! Don't tell her I said that, though!
Anyway, here she is!

Room to grow on a frame is a good thing. Congrats on organizing the project. She looks super happy

Post = Awesome
Photos = Excellent
Smile = Priceless
I know you could of posted the photo of your daughter on her new bike by itself and it would speak volumes on it's own.
Thank you for your story. May you continue to have success in building your relationship with your daughter.

LOL. Thanks. We weren't to the end of your driveway before she was asking if she could ride the Marathon Crash Race with us this morning......until she heard that we're getting up at 2am! The smile you saw at your house is still glued to her face, though. I'm loving it. She's even talking about doing GMR with us, so you all will be able to visit the bike from time to time!
I wasn't sure if you would post a similar pic with a new bike in your stable! Oh, and time to update your sig!
Thank you again! I'm looking forward to the memories it helps us create.

I put a 50mm stem on one of my bikes with no handling issue, so don't be afraid to keep it short.

So, whose bright idea was it to buy my kid a new bike the day before the Marathon Crash Race. I hadn't even unloaded the bikes yet and cupcakes was asking to go for a ride! Uh....I could use a rest kid. You slept until 8am. I slept until 2:30am. Rested for a while, ate some tuna and celery and back on the bike. My posterior reminded me the entire ride what an idiot I am! Yes, but I'm a HAPPY idiot!
Halfway through the ride, I realized PSALM had suggested I flip it. Well, the bike is still a HAIR too big for her, and the stem was down, so I took PSALM's advice. We stopped in some shade and flipped the stem.....UP! It helped a lot. Still need a shorter stem, but I'll find that soon.
She was all smiles for the whole ride. Me, on the other hand, am questioning the wisdom of buying her a more efficient bike. I may have to lock out a few gears and tighten the brakes so they drag. Don't tell her, though!

We picked up a 2012 Fuji Cross 2.0
Swapped out the 700x35 cross tires for some 700x25's I had around and Did 24 miles today, a little tweaking with the seat and all went well. May need to locate a 70 stem as well.

Nice bike! Great. Gee thanks. Now I feel perfectly guilty about out-pacing my daughter on her BMX bike... LOL! Very coincidentally, we were out riding today, and the wife mentioned that it might be time to upgrade our little one to a "proper" geared bike... We just started riding dirt trails as a family, so I'm thinking more along the lines of a MTB...but a cute little road bike wouldn't be out of the question.

I'm so jealous. It looks awesome. We bought a Trail Gator for my older son's bike. He has a Trek similar to Cupcakes old one. He can hang in there for a little while, but tires easily. Of course, me being a bit vertically challenged, it isn't quite going to fit on my bike. It needs to be a tiny bit higher to keep the front wheel off the ground. So the Trail Gator will go to DH's bike and I will get the Tug a Bug on mine. I did get to go about two months without pulling anyone. I think I'll use my box store Schwinn for pulling though and not attach anything else to my Cannondale.
