Does the suspension still work with the racks mounted?

The front stock suspension worked perfectly.

Given that I have 15KG load at the back so I must replace the back suspension with a harder one. The effect is less noticeable but still working well. It's a third party Multi-S suspension which is even harder than the stock green PV suspension. The design of the rear rack causes compression on the suspension so replacing it with a harder one is necessary.

The Tailfin rack system is super quick and amazing. Loaded to the gills and not a single rattle. Pricey but well worth it. The engineering is amazing and it's featherlight.

I’ve been a runner for most of my life. Spent a lot of years training and running marathons. At the same time, I was a bike commuter and kept thinking, “one of these days I need to do some touring”. But there was always a good reason to delay just a little while longer. I woke up six weeks ago and realized two things 1) I’m 65 years old and e2) my achilles tendonitis won’t heal as long as I keep running on it. Immediately went to the local LBS and ordered a brand new Surly Disc Tucker. Lily (I named her after one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs) and I spent 6 weeks and 800 miles gtting acquainted. Then we went on a little “tour”. A two day loop down to a local state park and back home. 50 miles on Day 1 and 35 on Day 2. Just a little shakedown cruise to get me started. No telling where this will wind up.....

Whoever has this, can you talk about the shield on the front of it and what you really get out of it. I understand the theory of why you would put one on a motorcycle, is it relatively all the same reasons? Is there a night and day difference in speed with it on there?

Hi Jedi....I find the fairing especially effective in heavy headwinds, with the trike, pedaling is in front of the rider, not below the rider as on regular bikes. The fairing shields the feet and any air flow disturbance that could slow the trike down is minimized. Some say the fairing doesn't come into play until after about 14 to 20 kph, before that its just wasted weight. I don't worry too much about weight as you can tell with my rig (except for overloading the trailer) and to be honest I rarely tour with the fairing. With the weight of the tour load and the recommended top speed the trailer is supposed to adhere to, the fairing is (in this case) just dead weight. The fairing is also an excellent weather protector, my feet are always dry in heavy downpours, and at speed the rain strikes my chest and face, which it would anyways without the fairing.

From a recent short Rocky Mountain tour. At the top of Independence Pass, the highest paved crossing of the Continental Divide.

Rear bag is an old Carradice knockoff by "Cardiff", a Merry Sales brand, I picked up for $5. I prop it up with a rolltop saddle bag of spares that keeps it from hitting my thighs. I sewed the front bags. The panniers are sized to exactly fit the Koga Miyata cloned Jim Blackburn-esque low rider rack. It would appear i neglected to close my rando bag in this shot.

The front bags are a 1000D Cordura nylon exterior with a 70D nylon taffeta floating liner, both polyurethane coated. Lots of black nylon webbing straps and reflective shock cord lacing. They weigh 10oz per side, compared to ~22oz per side for Ortlieb front rollers, not that weight matters much on tour. While they aren't "waterproof" like Ortliebs, in that they can't be submerged, they are highly water resistant. Even a fairly hard soaking won't get anything wet, though I carry nylon covers for them just in case.

I've put about 1100 miles of abuse on them nuxx, through all sorts of terrain. Not a single issue, no rattles, squeaks, nothing. You'll enjoy them and they do draw a crowd. I'm waiting for the trunk rack, should be about the 20th. I've got the original T1 rack, if you're getting the newer version, it's even sexier. Plus if you're going all in, get both sets of bags, the light and the durable. It's an extra few bucks but well worth the investment.

for those asking, it is absolutely not a problem to travel with kids, even if we are riding ebikes and our son is riding a normal bike.
He rides quicker and longer as we are able to do !
And we already travel with him when he was younger with a kid bike without any problem. (picture 1 , somewhere into the forest during a rainy day)
