Your Weekend (or Week's) Rides -- October 13/14

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saturday -- probably the nicest day we've had in a long time!! The temp got to 21C in sunshine and the wind wasn't too bad.

Rowan and I rode to the end of the Cycleway and back ... for the second time.

Distance: 27.00 km
Elevation: 160 m
Moving Time: 1:25:24
Elapsed Time: 1:27:02
Speed: Avg: 19.0 km/h | Max: 30.6 km/h

And then Rowan went for a bit of a walk and I went for a short, fast run ... my second fasted kilometre.

Distance: 1.10 km
Elevation: 7 m
Moving Time: 6:45
Elapsed Time: 6:51
Pace: 6:07/km

Hill climb challenge with riders from a couple local groups! Temps started out in the low 40s F, but warmed up to the mid 50s by the time I got home. Best of all, the sun came out!

On the way back, I stopped to yell at my FD (which eventually complied), caught up to one group, tried to catch another, failed that, and just rode around for a bit. Day total: 62.7 miles, 3,901'.

I only hit one PR on the hill challenge, but have something to work for next time. I also met some people from the faster group, which I'm thinking about riding with sometime - I think I can definitely hang with the mostly men's B group!

Props to our official unofficial photographer for taking some great photos! It's officially Fall in western Wisconsin.

A couple of 25 mile rides on the road bike, first on that bike since August. Had to take a month off to let my injured shoulder heal (and some complications from illness). Felt pretty good, my conditioning is still okay. I've still been using the road bike on the indoor trainer. Intended to ride more but we've had fairly heavy rain, wind and some t-storms.

And a couple of short rides on the hybrid with more upright ride, which I've been riding more often the past six weeks to give my shoulder a rest. Gotta say, I'm liking the versatile albatross bar more than I'd expected. I can see why it's been a popular classic design for so many decades.

Sunday - I didnt feel like riding but made myself ride anyway. I had a route in mind from my house that Ive wanted to do for about 9 years but just never had. I was short on time so only 30 miles.

Google maps lied to me. One "road" went through a power plant thats closed to traffic. Another road was closed off and blocked by a train. Then I turned on the wrong road. I turned around and got back on track then missed the road I meant to turn on. So I decided to just jump over to a route Ive ridden.

All in all it was much better than not riding at all. My fitness is all screwed up because Ive gotten bored with the same old shop rides etc. This cooler weather should help if/when it arrives.

43 mile loop around town; 1650ft climbing; 15.5MPH average, which is fast for this old man. Must have been the cool weather.

Annual 'Biketoberfest' day- beer, vendors, music, etc.. Entry fee gets you a glass & unlimited sampling of 30+ beers.

GF & I wore 'fraulein vests' & I got equal looks & compliments on my cleavage. Also got compliments on small sign I wore disparaging

Kavanaugh's dragging down the reputation of beer.

Morning ride 39 miles, 3,800' with a stop near the end to help a guy w/ mechanical. Tool-less opening of quicklink to remove f-ed up FD.

I was even wearing coated palm liner gloves so no greasy hands.

Sunday: Just a quick ride to the store and back - 4.3 miles.

It wouldn't even be worth mentioning, but I waited for the SNOW to stop before going out Soon I'll have the roads allll to myself for a few months!

I went for a ride this past Tuesday evening as hurricane Michael was passing by. Even though it was hundreds of miles away it still caused flooding. Breezy 26 miles ride.
Sea wall next to the balustrade sidewalk was acting almost like a **** :

Water was still getting on the road by backing up via the storm drains. Usually I'm riding in the bike lane, but it is under water:

Saturday was the first nice morning since May. So, of course, I had to work. Sunday went for a 41 miles ride to Picnic and Davis Is. Did a make up ride on Monday basically over the same route with a few extra miles thrown in. 43 miles total.
