I wish I could get out there early enough to do that before the forum ride. I will be staying out there for 8 days starting with the forum ride, though, so I'll definitely get some good rides in. In the mean time, I'm riding the hardest trail here just about every other day. I've just got to be careful. Took a collar bone shot yesterday. It would suck to get hurt before the trip. Looks like you had an awesome trip. I can't wait. Biking, kayaking, or whatever, WNC is such an awesome place.

I've had some questions about the weather. Its in the 60s during the day and 40s at night(normaly). last year we had temps in the mid 70s. We could have temps in the high 40s. Its kinda tricky around here that time of year. The mtns should be really in color.

Just have everyone bring a good sleeping bag and go for it. A good ride will warm ya up and the camp fire will keep ya that way.

Anyone with an avatar like his is worth meeting

Question about the camp site. Does it have showers or toilets? If not, does it have running water some place? Or is a good sand scrub the best we're gonna get?

Looks nice. I imagine that everyone knows not to use it for their shower (unless they're using Dr. Bronners magical soap) or, heaven forbid, their toilet.

What creek is that anyway?

What is this "soap" you speak of?

With any luck, our dinner will be coming out of there, so....no.

That is the Davidson River.

Oh, and to answer your question more completely, this is purely a primitive campsite. There are some bathrooms a couple miles down the road at the fish hatchery if you need to freshen up a bit. Or a little further down there is a campground where you may be able to poach a shower.

soap?
A cool rinse at the end of the day is good enough for me and toilets are a short drive away.

Dr. Bronners. It's the stuff. https://www.drbronner.com/soaps.html

It can be found at any decent outdoor shop. Hemp based and completely biodegradable. You can even wash your hair and brush your teeth with it. I don't really recommend the latter (bitter taste), but I used to do it when I backpacked. I can't say what makes it magical on a public forum, but I'll bring some. Let's just say that it leaves you with a nice "tingle" after a shower. And, if you ever get bored, you can read his religous ramblings on the packaging. Interesting stuff.

If anyone's up for a raft trip in the week after the ride, I'll show 'em "Sodomy Creek", on the Chattooga River. I won't be getting out of my boat there, though.
