Dukes of Hazard General Lee Bicycle
Yes, I went there Who doesn't love The General lee? Maybe don't answer that I saw there were DK Dukes of Hazzard BMX bikes but no road General Lees. Did I mention Rustoleum Paint Job? Brush painted by hand. Rustoleum mixed with Mineral Spirits - consistency between Half & Half and Heavy Cream. 3 coats sand 400, 3 coats sand 600, 3 coats sand 800, final coat mixed with a little Penetrol. Coats 8-12 hours apart. A day dry time before wet sanding. 2 brushes, one for all nine coats, new brush for final. Sharing and Happy New Year!

Well done. For the final touch you just need the Dixie horn.

What you really need is a sound effect of tires squealing while skidding on a dirt road. No idea how that noise is supposed to occur, but it's in all the tv shows from the era.

Just be ready for some unfriendly reactions when people see the rebel flag.
And how did you find bar tape that exactly matched the paint color? Or was it done the other way around?

Nice job. I was going to ask how well it made jumps, but the video answered my questions. Not sure about the PCness of the head badge, but those were different times, I guess. Here in Tinseltown, there were stories BITD, of people finding notes on their Dodge Charger, asking if they wanted to sell them. The jumps took quite a toll on the Charger population around here. Cool, bike, cool idea, nicely done. How were the decals made?

Even before you could rewind a show and replay, you could see the axles break on the jumps if you looked close enough.

A fun project, and very nicely executed. The only thing I'd do differently would be to give it a black saddle instead of the brown.

A beautiful paint job can't hide an ugly legacy.
But, ironically, it's now a free country, unlike Lee's plantation...
from Wikipedia:"Lee's cruelty on the Arlington plantation nearly led to a slave revolt, since many of the slaves had been given to understand that they were to be made free as soon as Custis died, and protested angrily at the delay.[59] In May 1858, Lee wrote to his son Rooney, "I have had some trouble with some of the people. Reuben, Parks & Edward, in the beginning of the previous week, rebelled against my authority—refused to obey my orders, & said they were as free as I was, etc., etc.—I succeeded in capturing them & lodging them in jail. They resisted till overpowered & called upon the other people to rescue them."[58] Less than two months after they were sent to the Alexandria jail, Lee decided to remove these three men and three female house slaves from Arlington, and sent them under lock and key to the slave-trader William Overton Winston in Richmond, who was instructed to keep them in jail until he could find "good & responsible" slaveholders to work them until the end of the five-year period.[58]
Lee ruptured the Washington and Custis tradition of respecting slave families and by 1860 he had broken up every family but one on the estate, some of whom had been together since Mount Vernon days.[60]"

Hard to believe a sentient adult in 2019 would imagine that putting a Confederate flag on a bike and flaunting it on the internet would not be offensive. Currently it is known as the symbol of white supremacists and other racists. Historically it was the symbol for those invested in the continuance and expansion of slavery. It doesn't matter what we were taught 50 or 60 years ago in 8th grade History class. That was a lie. Most of us have learned stuff since then. Hope this thread will soon be locked or better yet, deleted.
