Which Bike would you choose?
Hi Guys,
I have recently gotten into riding, initially i bought a crappy $100 moutain bike from my local target, i just wanted something cheap to begin with to see if i actually enjoyed riding and would stick with it.
I ride 50% bike paths and 50% off road dirt and gravel tracks.
I've decided its time to get something a bit more decent.
I have narrowed my choices down to these 2 bikes,
2015 Polygon Xtrada 5.0 - Mountain Bike 27.5" Shimano Alivio 27 Speed
Flight Men's Trail 1 Mountain Bike - Amart Sports
Any advice would be appreciated

hi jimc,
I am happy with either a 27.5 or a 26. Im more interested in the components, for example i notice the flight bike uses deore rear derailure but i think an acera front derailure? Would that be better than say the polygon that has all alivio?

It's pretty hard to tell the spec on the Flight, as although it say Deore, the only part clearly visible which is Deore is the RD, the RD looks to be M591 is several generation older than the Alivio M4000 which is designed for 27.5/29er and is just release for the 2015 season.
Between the 2, the Polygon looks better, for which Shimano? being realistic, there won't be much in it from what can be seen (which isn't much on the Flight) but they both look to have be all Shimano, including the cranks, and being Shimano, you know it will work out of the box if correctly set up.

theyre defiantly compareable bikes. i would personally lean towards the 26" option, but thats just me. the polygon is mainly new alivio 9spd where as the flight is an older 9spd deore (which is still completely fine imo). same fork, both feature hydraulic brakes, both appear to support tapered steer tubes. either or is a good buy, tho the flight saves you 100$.
tho for that kind of money you could go after a more reputable brand like trek, norco, or specialized and get just as much value

I take it you're from Oz? I don't know what's available to you, but I'm sure it's more than just those two options. Could you go to a shop and try out some bikes? Better chance you'll be happy with what you end up with if you can actually ride some bikes and see what geometry feels the best to you, rather than haphazardly picking a bike online and crossing your fingers that it'll fit and feel good.
