Post Mount to Flat Mount adapter? OR mix&match
Hi All,
Building up a bike. The frame has a flat mount setup for disc calipers, and the fork has a post mount setup. Looking to build with Shimano 105 R7000. Am I better off getting a post mount to flat mount adapter to fit the front Shimano 105 flat mount caliper?
OR
Can I mix and match. Example: Keep the rear flat mount setup, and use a Shimano hydraulic SLX Post Mount (BR-M7100) caliper on the fork. Will the 105 hydro shifter work with this type of caliper?
Thanks!

There aren't good flat mount to post mount converters, so your best bet is to use a MTB flat mount caliper. That SLX caliper should work OK--they're both BH90 hoses and have Servo-wave.

This Forum section Did this one a couple weeks ago.. the solution, stated then, was :
change the flat mount (Shimano) caliper to a MTB post mount hydraulic caliper ..
then the mix should be fine

https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/produ.../BR-M7100.html
no i don't have that kind of bike, I'm repeating earlier posts

Thanks guys for the replies. fietsbob , what do you mean you did this one a couple of weeks ago? Like actually installed this setup on a bike?
cpach - Do you mean an MTB post mount caliper? The hoses are both BH90, but looking at the 105 flat mount specs - it shows SM-BH90-JK-SSR, SM-BH90-J-SSR, but on the SLX mtb caliper specs show SM-BH90-SBM.
Are these different?
Ty.

Not your exact situation, but I built up a bike using new ultegra hydro brifters and XT post mount calipers with no issue. So, you can definitely use post mount calipers with levers that are now packaged for use with flat mount calipers. The only "tricky part" is making sure you have all the right hose with the right fittings on both ends.

BH90-SS = straight - straight connections
BH90-SB = straight - banjo connections

Deore brakes use a hose with the straight - straight connections like the 105 brakes.
SLX brakes use a hose with straight - banjo connections, you would need new hose for the SLX brake.

Understood - excuse me I meant just going with a Deore caliper, not a Deore XT. So what matters most are the "straight-straight" connections in this setup:
BR-M6100 (Deore caliper) - the Shimano compatibility chart shows SM-BH90-SS
ST-R7025 (105 Brifter for small hands) - compatibility chart shows SM-BH90-JK-SSR.
Just curious... what does the JK-SSR mean for the ST-R7025 brifter? Given that these are both straight-straight... i'll be going this route.

The parts that attach the hose to the caliper are the same with both road and mountain brakes.
