140mm to 160mm Rotor on direct mount road bike adapter
Hey,
So here's the situation. My partner's got a 140mm rear rotor and I have a 160mm rear rotor. We both run 11 speed and I figured it might be fun to be able to share wheelsets now and again. She's got a Felt VR5 which looks to have the 105 disc rotor mounted directly to the frame (see attachment below). Could I use the Shimano flat mount disc brake adapter to convert it to a 160mm?

Yes you could increase the rotor size by using an adapter.
The Shimano SM-MA-R160D/D adapter is what you'd need.
Here's a couple of diagrams and a webpage that could be useful to you......

The rotor is attached to the hub, the disc brake caliper is attached to the frame.

The adapter for your flat mount brakes will allow you to use a 160mm rotor on that bike. However, you will have to replace the 140mm rotor to her bike as the current one will no longer work. Is the convenience worth the cost of a new rotor? Also most wheel swaps require at least minor tuning of the shifting and perhaps rotor/caliper realignment so it's not as simple and fast as just popping in a new rear wheel.

Rear does little for braking purposes, I would just change your bike to take the 140mm instead. Bonus is you also shave off some weight that way.

Well, I'd either change her bike to take 160 or mine to take 140, but I have 2 wheelsets already set up with 160. A 140 rotor wouldn't be too bad cost wise. Good point on the adjustments needed between cassette changes with the wheel swap. This was mostly just a thought I had and was wondering if it was possible to get a 160 on her 140 frame.
Thanks
