Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When I took electric car classes and we opened up the batteries they kept an insulated pole with a hook on the end in case one of us fell on something high voltage. We were taught how to use the pole to drag another student off of the battery. A lot of us also got yelled at by the instructor for stepping into the danger zone.

Our employers were supposed to supply us with 1000 volt gloves and send them in for certification every 6 months. They never did that in the 9 years I was working on electric cars and only replaced the gloves once or twice.

I have never seen a check being used here. Cash or plastic.

If I ever have another desk, it will be of the standing variety. I'm not comfortable in a chair for long periods of time anymore.

I want one of the convertible ones, with some hydraulics. Seems like an hour standing, an hour sitting, repeat as needed would be the best scenario for my back.

I usually do OK if I set hourly stand-and-stretch reminders on my phone.

How long are you comfortable standing?

I've never been comfortable standing for long periods of time. A couple minutes is all I can stand. Walking, riding, sitting, etc, I can do. Standing... nuh-uh.

WE got roof-high drifts one year in Fairfax County, VA. Seems like we got 3 snow days for school.

Also, we're still three feet behind our normal average snowfall.

I may be getting a standing desk since sitting is the new meth. Try to keep up.

In other news, I loaded up my bike for tomorrow. It's supposed to be in the upper 60's so I might give it a whirl. I felt a little better today and got another laser treatment on the affected lower back area. The Orthopedic Doc said I probably wouldn't cause any damage by riding so I'll make a game time decision. Maybe just 45 minutes. Wednesday is supposed to be 70.
