obviously it's a frame that deserves (and will get) all the right parts eventually.. but it's pretty funny some of you guys are hating on parts that aren't exactly cheap (phil wood hubs & dura ace pista crankset?).. heh. don't worry, i'll post pics when that **** is rocking the polished NOS C-Record pista gruppo

New pics of my conversion that's changed a lot since I built it up (and posted pics) last year:
Chainring chopped off of a one-piece crank, drilled and filed to match the spider by yours truly (Sora road crank)
The rear wheel, XT front hub:

I've been commuting on various forms of this bike for over a year now. It's a 1980 Raleigh Super Course, with a mix of a few nice components, a lot of the refinished original stuff, and some garbage I had lying around.
She'll be done as a fixed gear within the month though. Im switching all her components over to an Angus, repainting her and putting on a older shimano 600 group.

My brake line crapped out when i was switching handle bars. I've been riding brake-less for a week, and while I can do it, I absolutely hate it. Im putting on a new lever and a brake line tomorrow.

I definitely have the velcro strips all cut to length that cover nearly every section of the bike. My bike has gears and my spokes are bladed, so covering everything and avoiding the steak knife effect of the spokes is quite difficult. I found that the spokes managed to push the padding out of the way and scrape a few places, and that the end of the axle jacked the **** out of the paint on my downtube and the neighboring decal when the plug fell out of the end of the axle. Also, the phrase I had painted on the non-drive chainstay partially rubbed off onto the velcro padding due to its not being under the clearcoat. So far, I've been very unimpressed with the ability of the velcro stuff to protect anything...
I have seen people advising a gigantic piece of padded tubing right where the cassette hits the downtube in the box. Although that doesn't matter for anyone with a track bike...
