I'm not entirely sure that the white saddle was the way to go, it's a Toupe, but it should match my next ride if I like it. I should probably change the bartape too....


Also, I have Elite Cuissi gel cages coming soon, replacing the single Giant OEM cage that was there, I took it off for the picture.

If you need the seat that far forward i would definetly go for a zero setback post. It looks kind of funny like that.

I think some white bartape would look real nice. It would tie in the Toupe saddle with the white stroke on the lettering on the frame. White+red > Black+red on your bike.

I don't think Ritchey makes the WCS in Zero-Setback, and plus, Ah like eet.

I don't like Mavic's, plus, I trashed them by hitting a pothole at 40mph, so I went to the Xero's on the cheap. They're not as smooth rolling, and I don't like climbing with them as they're not as stiff.
The next wheelset will begin with a 'C' and end in an 'ampagnolo Eurus.'

This thread is as much about the aesthetics of bikes as it is about anything so I'd say this question belongs on this thread.

I see a lot of references to bottle cages. I don't like the look of them myself I think one bottle or two ruins the beauty of a frame's lines. I was going to use a "Camelback" for hydration. I'm just getting into cycling and I don't have my ride yet. Is there a reason most people seem to go with bottles?

I would think it would be safer to use a "Camelback" and you can hold more water/juice than you could ever drink. Maybe some think sucking on the tube looks silly? Just frown so you look mean when you're doing it.

Short version: Camelbacks on the road are kinda goofy. I'm not sure why, they just are.

Longer version: Since speeds on the road can average 15-20 mph, and hit highs in the 40's, having a camelback flopping around can ruin the joy of aerodynamics. Also, camelbacks on the trails are a necessity because bottles in cages will pop out with the first bump you hit. On the road, that's not so much of a problem. Lastly, some cages are beautiful, well-sculpted pieces of bike bling.

well I kind of cheated. since I knew I asked that question I just looked for my past posts. haha.

not sure what camelbak you use, but the only way for mine to "flop around" is if it took my shoulders with it. the classic fits snug against your back and there is very little storage so there's no flopping around. personally I like having a cold drink even after 20 or 30 miles on the road.

oh, and the waterbottle with the battery in it on my mtb stays in the cage with no problem. even over bumps.

A 0degree setback post will allow your seat rails to work and help absorb the bumps not to mention it will help you fine tune your fit and will look much better esthetically. That saddle position has me questioning the loooong stem. I am thinking you may need some help with the fit. I bet it would be money well spent Crimson. Nice looking ride by the way...

Yup it is a nice ride. Yup that's a darned long stem, I bet a reduction in stem length would have a 1:1 relationship with the distance the seat can move back.

With respect Crimson, that doesn't look safe. Your weight should be over the seat-post a lot more I think. Although structurally the bend in the seat-post does mitigate that a bit.
