Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road Cycling in Dubai, UAE

Has anyone ever loaded up the bike and headed off to Dubai for some road cycling in the desert? Looking for some pointers and tips on where to do some road cycling as I plan on a 10 day trip to Dubai soon. I heard there is several specific cycling paths for bikes but not able to find out much information about it..Thanks.. The LIGHTWEIGHT MEILENSTEIN MAN

I have never cycled in Dubai personally, but there are expedition companies who can arrange this for you as part of a group ride, some of the ones that specialise in quad-bike and 4x4 adventures in the desert. Due to the incredible heat for most of the year, you probably want to cycle in a group with some backup in case of severe dehydration or getting lost.

Al Qudra is a popular one but there are cars on it too, but you can go on this alone as there are rest points along the way: https://www.visitdubai.com/en/pois/a...-cycling-track

It's fairly well reviewed too: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attrac..._of_Dubai.html

It's a proper paved path so you won't really be cycling in the desert as such, but cycling along a purpose-built path that has been created in the desert. Early morning is definitely the best time to cycle in Dubai!

I went to Dubai in October for five days. About 110 degrees every single day, probably close to 80 degree dewpoints. I genuinely can't imagine trying to ride there unless at dawn or dusk.

Trekmogul, I'd think twice. Aren't your afraid your MEILENSTEIN LIGHTWEIGHT WHEELS will warp in that kind of heat?

It's still hot as hell in Dubai. I hate riding when it's that hot.

Actually it looks pretty nice lol. https://www.google.com/search?q=duba...hrome&ie=UTF-8

100-103 highs every day, low 80s lows. Certainly hot, but ungodly, I'm going to die, I don't want to ride my bike type hot? I like riding in hot weather...but yea I'd certainly go slower and take it easy if I'm out in the middle of the day...anything over 90 I wear down pretty quick. A 1 or 2 hr pleasant paced cruise there sounds nice

Sometimes you do get a lovely breeze blowing in Dubai that can take the edge off the heat and it can feel quite refreshing. It usually takes me 24-48 hours to adjust to the heat when I go there.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I am looking forward to doing this very soon with nothing much really planned but flying to Dubai with my wife and sight seeing a bit and attempting to make a go at the bike path that everyone has pointed out to me. I am quite use to cycling in hot and humid sri lanka and really not sure how much hotter or humid Dubai will be from Sri Lanka. I know Sri lanka is as toasty and muggy as hell being only 2 degrees north of the equator..

More insight or input would be much appreciated.. MEILENSTEIN LIGHTWEIGHT OBERMAYER Guy..

I rode bikes as a kid in Dubai, but cannot imagine going on a road ride now in that heat. If it's going to be that hot in CO, I ride early. Dubai desert hot is hot.

For those whom have cycled in Dubai, UAE is the wind much of a issue as I was thinking of taking either one of my Disc Wheel Sets or a 90MM Deep Wheel set..?

Wind itself won't be an issue. However, if you're unlucky you can run into a sand-storm which is likely to make cycling unbearable and ruin your bike!

I have friends there...one is a cyclist. He says it is HOT as hell and worse than southern India. Watch for those pesky sandstorms. Have fun.

The day has just about arrived for us to head off to DUBAI, UAE for some cycling and fun in the desert heat. Just finished packing up the SCICON AEROTECH BIKE CARRIER and they say 10 minutes but more like 45 minutes for me.. I decided to go with my Zipp 808 NSW Front Clincher and the ZIPP SUPER 900 DISC rear clincher..

Hmmm.

"Sandstorm" + "disc wheel".

What could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, not sure I would have brought a very deep wheel, let alone a disc. But then, I don't know much about wind in Dubai.

Haboobs do happen in Dubai, but they are not as often as people think they do. They usually happen during summer.
