Well, in the interest of full disclosure, that was a side gravel road where we stopped so my buddy could take a bio break. We were on blacktop for the ride (with frequent slush piles). A couple of weekends ago, a part our route was just glazed ice, but no turns or braking were required, so we forged on. We did avoid that route yesterday, however.

After a month of bitter cold and snow temperatures finally warmed up in to the low 30s.

One of the best birthday presents I could ask for - after work today I got to ride my age (in km ) and was treated to a gorgeous sunset. Cheers!

Happy bday, @abshipp, that’s one of the best ways to enjoy the day.

I got out for a short ride around town at today’s end. Nice little escape.

@obrentharris Definitely more crowded that it was even 25 - 30 years ago when I first rode it (I believe I was on a 39-23 on my new Specialized Allez). Now that the Bob Jackson is checked out, some of the next rides are ones you probably did in your youth. OLH to West Alpine and Kings to Tunitas Creek. Hoping to get these in in the next month or so.

Yep, that was TdMIL '18. Living in Redwood City, I had all the great Peninsula climbs not far from my doorstep - Kings Mountain, Old La Honda, Alpine, even Saratoga. My favorite place on Old La Honda was this very appropriately named road that intersects it.

I've been favoring the LOOK over my other bikes since I put on some nice 28mm Veloflex tubulars. Today I got out for a short sprint up to the top of the Berkeley Hills on the Arlington and back. I haven't been doing many long rides, but trying to get out for 15-20 miles after work when I can. I feel bad for all of you who are snowed in. It was a nice warm day here in CA.

I haven't posted in this thread lately, so at the risk of breaking some rules, here are a few more local shots from recent rides the last week or so.

Thanks for the birthday wishes

Man, two riding days in a row! What luck! 40°-ish this afternoon.

10 mile shakedown on this new build. Quiet, smooth, and zippy. And very dirty at the end since there's snow melt on the roads Oh well, I've been pining to ride this for a while so I don't really mind too much.

Feels like spring in Bay Area of Callfornia, with green grass, buds and blossoms on trees, birds nesting, and temps in 60s and 70s.

Just took a short ride out yesterday to the local farm shop - the weather was not good with 40mph wind and a couple of hailstorms - as we needed cheese, and I had a newly finished bike to try out. The wind was from the south luckily, so I had the mother of all headwinds going out, and a glorious tailwind coming home.

The trip was a success overall; 2 pounds of local Cheddar and a wedge of Somerset Brie, and the bike was great apart from someone not tightening the seatpost clamp properly, generating a sinking feeling on the ride .

^ Man, what a beautiful Herse, DGrandPrix! It felt like spring here in the PNW too...

I rode down to Fall City to meet up with some friends for a ride out to Duvall for Lunch today.
Steve was just getting ready as I wheeled up. He brought a bike I hadn’t seen before.
A cool old Frejus 650b conversion assembled with an eclectic mix of parts.

We rode the river road out to Carnation, Bob in the lead. The air was so clear, the mountains putting on a show in the distance.

We stopped for lunch “al fresco” at the Grateful Bread Bakery on the Main Street in Duvall. A flock of Rubber Duckies at the table next to us on the sidewalk…

Fully sated, we return to Fall City vis the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. I said my goodbyes to them on the trail before they took the access road down to their cars. I rode home to North Bend on the trail.

The sun was out yesterday, and the temperature went over 10 degrees, so the shorts came out for the first time this year.

Out of Weston through Hutton, then across the moor to Puxton and down to Sandford, through Churchill and Lower Langford, before climbing through Burrington Coombe and onto the Mendips. Over the top of the Mendip by way of Charterhouse and the Mineries, then Priddy, before descending past Ebbor Gorge and into Wookey Hole towards Wells.

I had intended to stop briefly in Wells by the Cathedral and Bishop's Palace, but the centre of the city was a mass of roadworks with heavy traffic caused by the diversions so I went straight through and on towards Glastonbury, taking a brief lunch stop below the Tor.

From Glastonbury I headed homewards across the Levels, taking in Shapwick, Westhay, Mark, Vole, and Rooksbridge, before skirting Bleadon Hill. Just over 100km, under sunshine, blue skies, with masses of snowdrops and daffodils in the verges, and quite a few other cyclists about. Traffic in Wells apart, it was close to a perfect day's cycling.

Heading up through Burrington

A near Peufect ride

Been around 40F here the past few days and looks like it's going to hold for at least the next week. I rode three days in a row for I don't know how long. Wednesday I rode to the Loop to check out the Navy Pier Flyover. The last segment (over the Chicago River) is finally complete. Not a very picturesque photo but the completion of this stretch is significant for bikies and pedestrians of all stripes.

Yesterday I headed back north up Sheridan Road. I could see how blue Lake Michigan looked as I passed the various side streets, so I stopped at Tower Road Park to take a look. Unfortunately, we still have ginormous piles of snow and ice on the shoreline, so the lake itself is a bit obscured at lake level. I did snap one shot looking back to the Bahá'í Temple in Wilmette. I guess the shot at lake level also reduced the blue effect. No matter. I'm just happy to be back out spinning the cranks.

You may have heard that the "snow train" seems to have ended here in the Mid-Atlantic. Lately I've been riding the snow blower instead of the bikes (other than on the trainers in the unheated shop). Yesterday was very fine - up to 40deg and bright sun. I seemed like a long time since I'd been out for a good ride. The County keeps the Chester Valley Trail clear all winter so it was in very nice condition. Worth the drive.

40°, sunny and dead calm this evening.

Pretty perfect 18 miles on my GJ, I haven't ridden this bike since early December 2020 and was reminded of how nice a ride it is.

Yep, It's been a really good winter for the Cascade snowpack. Currently measures over 10 feet deep at the summit from nearly 30 feet of total snowfall so far this year.
And March is typically the month of heaviest snowfall...
Good for farmers in Eastern Washington, and for everyone who loves our forests and clean air, a reduced wildfire season this summer.

But it has made my self imposed exile from alpine skiing this season due to covid risk all the more painful.
I just don't want to risk getting infected and bringing it home to my wife.
