Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That’s a very serious sports car. Entry price new is close to $400k.

Tell your friend he’s a poser though unless he steps up his game to a Senna GTR. 🏎.😜 If you can get one, it costs $1.7mm or more.

If you do that, you’ll have to add cargo shorts to the mix.

Decided to ring out winter with a ride "sur les graveaux" today. Also because it's a bit sheltered from the equinoctial gales. And flat. And too cold and windy for droves of walkers.

The POA are really good tires - I think you'll like 'em. The only thing that I didn't like about them was that they don't stay bead-locked on to my wheels when deflated, which makes install and sealant maintenance a little more complicated and "a little more complicated" isn't something that I need or want. I've been wanting to taste-test a few of the better tires on the market anyway, so, if I don't find something that's as good and easier to live with, I'll go back to them and try double-wrapping the rim tape or something.
if I could get my hands on a regular Caledonia frameset, I’d just swap stuff over and get new shifters.

Di2 is nice, but I could live without it. I find that I don’t even miss it when riding the Giant with GRX except for top button Garmin page navigation.

I’m excited about the POA, interested in what you think of the Michelin. I’d like to try the new Enve tires too, but heard it’s tough to get them to seat.

Ah - I got the prospective purchases confused. Cool that it has some wheels. So yeah - get some pedals and then pow- pow- power meter.

(it's fun to spend other people's money)

The Michelin were definitely tighter than the POA , probably the tightest I've mounted in years. That said, I still didn't need anything but hands to get them on (I never have, knock on wood), but I did need to be deliberate in making sure that the beads were in the center channel and to take up any slack in order for the last bit to get over the edge of the rim. Once on, the Michelin snapped in to place nicely, though, with the first try with the blast canister for each.

I'm going to order the Pirelli P Zero Race TLRs this afternoon, I think.

She would be much better served by you getting a power meter.

I could make a case for riding inside in VA in the summer - heat and humidity.

Im hoping they go one sale. Her trainer would allow her to ride when I’m at work. Currently she can only ride once a week.

You restrict her to the house while you're gone?

Oh man that sucks. I'm not very familiar with those, are the couplers easy to come by, and are they easy to install?

Between 16 and 30 bucks online. Just found out most breakaway owners always spare sets. Installation is easy, I just chose to not follow any instructions or guides by ritchey and do it myself. The hinge coupler is just a small piece of aluminum.

glad it happened at home instead of while at work.

Chilly and windy out, but the sunshine and camaraderie made today’s ride go by quickly. Did I miss anything while I was away?

I mentioned this on today’s ride. He said he is not interested. I expect he could afford it. He is former CEO of a fairly large software company that was sold to private equity a few years ago. His proceeds from the deal I am sure were UGE.

The cool thing is he is down to earth and not a French shower in any way. He seems to be a normal well-adjusted guy and fairly modest.

I asked if he could adopt me, but he has 2 kids of his own.
