Picked up a Panasonic DX 5000 today
!986 model with all Shimano 600 components. Really nice shape with just a few rub marks. The owner said he lubed the wheel hubs and bottom bracket.
$250 seemed like a good deal to me.

Panasonic bikes aren’t common, and the company’s small bike business apparently only existed because Panasonic founder Mr...well you can look his name up, it’ll be censored here, anyway, he just loved bikes, so he wanted to have a bike business. If that’s your motivation then naturally the bikes are going to be excellent.
There was a member here for a year or two maybe 10 years ago who joined after scoring a small frame DX-5000. She was really pleased to find what a special bike it was but eventually figured it wasn’t quite her thing. I kinda wished I’d bought it. It was mint. And purple!

COUGH!...hem, yeah $250 for that Tange 1 custom.

I've only seen up to the 4000 series. Didn't know a DX-5000 existed. Looks nicely equipped, well put-together, and nicely finished. Very clean lines. that seat cluster reminds me of a bike one of our members posted as a mystery bike a couple months back. Maybe this is just me being insensitive or something, but I'd slap some brifters on that thing and could probably just zone out on it for a few dozen miles. Love the periwinkle-ish color, reminds me of the Bridgestone tri bike I had a few years back.

Considering that the "higher the number the better the bike" then, this is probably the finest Panasonic bike ever made. Love to know the weight of it. Looks like about a 21 pounder to me. Nice catch.

Nice one! Panasonics had excellent build quality and finish, and the ones I’ve had (3000 and 4000) rode great.

Very nice bike. I had a DX4000 several years ago(too small for me). They are well built bikes and look similar to the Centurion Ironman. They are certainly less common though, and that makes them more desirable(IMO).

Agree that this is a nice score at a nice price. You can ride with those nice old components on there or build to suit how you wish. Great bike either way.

I had a DX-5000, but with Tange Prestige. Just sold it locally to a young college age rider. Great bike. It was 21 lb 11 oz with pedals. 58 cm frame and Shimano 600.

Seems like a lot of bike for the money. Maybe it's my location but I remember seeing many Panasonics BITD, but not many 5000s. Enjoy!
