Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano PD-6700 pedals for 99.00

Specialized Elite Road shoes in black.

First ride yesterday and I like the set up although the pedals seem very hard to unclip from after coming from spd's and candy c pedals. I don't think I can go any lighter on the setting. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

Where'd you get the 6700 pedals for $99 roadrider ?

I've had SPD-SL pedals for about 8 months now. I like them, am used to them. They're easy to get in and out of, but secure enough for my tastes.

acaurora...

I found them on line at performance last weekend. They were out of stock but the Performance store in Beavercreek, OH had them and honored the price. I figured at almost 100.00 off a pair of Ultegras I couldn't go wrong. Pedals and some Performance winter cycling gloves for a total of 117.00. This was during their Presidents Day sale also. Went to my favorite bike shop and picked up the shoes. I had Specialized mtb shoes and liked the fit.

Guess I'll have to work on the unclipping issue. Maybe it's not an issue but much tighter than the crank brothers cleat/pedal combo I've been using.

Ah, cool. I got my 105 pedals for about that price when I first started. I have never tried other pedals, so I can't really speak in terms of how hard they are to get in / out of compared to other pedal types.

I just ordered a handful of safety glasses online for $4 a piece in multiple colors. Call me Fred, but I'll be willing to bet these do just as good a job shielding my eyes as my $120 Smiths.

Just ordered a set of Soul S3.0 wheels with red spokes. 3 week wait though. Now I need some good tires and latex tubes for them and I drop 2-3 pounds of dead weight and rolling resistance. Can't hardly wait, but I have to.

Romin SL > Test rode one for a week, hooked. Bought. The flared back definitely is more comfortable to me than the Toupe.

jrennie....can I ask how much oh the radars? I'm trying to decide between script sunglasses or trying to go with some contacts this summer. I'd need progressive/bifocals as well. Down side is work doesn't allow contacts so I'd need glasses also.

Do you find that your legs rub on the wider nose at all? I have the toupe, and since the 'hollow TI' label on the rails is worn off, i can only assume that the wider nose of the Romin would cause me problems.

I haven't noticed a problem with my legs rubbing on the nose, at least I do not remember it happening when I was test riding the demo Romin SL. I didn't realize until reading your post that the nose is indeed wider than the Toupe. I am doing two rides on Monday, so if it becomes an issue or if I notice it I'll be sure to post it

I got the Ionos in a large and am now suffering from mushroom head Otherwise I love it. Great airflow and the garmin colors match my kit perfectly!

Anyone know of a good low profile helmet for next time?

Cannon, this is for you!!

Catlike Kompact Pro

Love this helmet for its fit, weight (260g), and least mushroom-like appearance of them all (helmets).

Wow, that's a brilliant helmet. Guess the Garmin Ionos is goin on ebay!

Edit: You can get one from wiggle.co.uk for about 120. The Whisper is the 200+ model.
