Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

F8 set screw

Does anyone know the size of the set screws for the seatpost? Shop rounded one out using a hex instead of torx.

Thanks

I guess you are asking about the Pinarello? Since the other F8 should be another forum. Doesn't the shop know how to call and find out?

You should chide them for not having the right tool for the task.

I don't suppose you could measure them, like at a home depot or something? Pinarello appears to ship both 5mm and 6mm screws, according to eBay.

The guy that built it used a torx. The guy that fitted me jammed a hex in there before I knew it was a torx. Though I was suspicious remembering reading something like that.

Yeah. I did and found a hex the same size, but I bought some Wiha bits just for this and it didn’t come with a hex that size. #first world problem

That’s why I was hoping I could find some. I did see the eBay ones and they were like 30$. I know spend x$ on a bike and...

still 30$ foe set screws isn’t cool

$30.00 for a set screw? You must have been desperate not to look elsewhere. Fastenal stores are all around and supply many of the local industries with screws, bolts and other fasteners. Also many cities and areas that have had manufacturing industry for longer than I've been alive will have a fastener (bolts, screws, etc) supplier somewhere in the industrial park that will be even cheaper than Fastenal.

I've even had such suppliers just give me the single screw, bolt, o-ring or other small part simply because they didn't want to waste time entering an invoice.

Yep. I didn’t buy them. I found the correct replacement, but In a “hex” $1.67 at ACE hardware

I’d like to find the correct ones in torx. Though, I guess it shouldn’t matter.

Do you know the size of the stock pinarello ones?

thanks

Measure one.
Set screws are specified by their diameter x length. e.g. M5 x 12.
You will also need to specify if you want a regular socket screw (hex) or torx.
