"PM me if serious"
Unfortunate choice of words. I can't imagine any serious people looking to ride a bike (bikes?) like that. Maybe "PM me if wacky, and rich".

Sweet setback seatpost. Seriously the posts on these Huffy Highlands are really short. This one obviously was up past the min insert mark.

And, this has got to be someone's idea of a--relatively elaborate--joke. Very funny but I'm not falling for it.

^ I suspect not. Somebody probably got a hand-me-down bike and cluelessly modded it to suit his own needs. I'd call.

Kindly note that my landline is no longer available.
Text or call +1 917 494 0000 only.
I dialed that on my landline and it just rang and rang. Weird. Anyway, it's a prank or scam of some sort, otherwise there's no way that ad would still be up on a Saturday morning with the "seller" still responding to people. I just wonder if someone went and modified that Merckx, put it in that old-lady-looking apartment, and then took those crappy pictures all for the fake ad. If so, my compliments. Good fun!
EDIT:
Okay, I take it all back. I just called again and spoke to a woman who sounded like she was in her seventies. She told me that the bike sold at six this morning but she was still trying to sell her bike lock and helmet. So an early bird actually got that worm. You'd think they would have been kind enough to buy her lock and helmet too, but what can you do. Anyway, not so funny anymore, but that's the used bike game.

Good on you for sticking with it. It was beginning to sound scammy. Why not just edit the ad to show the correct number?
Of course, the "old lady" could be some voiceover actress/prankster trying to see just how far this can go, getting ol' @Headpost to scream, "NOOOOooooooooo!!!" into the phone when he finds out what he missed. My devious plan worked!

I wonder if the mask didn't make him feel like he could get away with it. Unless he really planned the thing out and took precautions ahead of time, though, I can't see how he wouldn't be traceable from the emails and/or texts he must have sent.
Clearly all the time I've spent surfing Craigslist, always hunting for deals while trying to outsmart the scammers, has made me a little too paranoid.

I don't understand why so many ads say this. Are we worried about adult bikes previously owned by extremely tall children? A picture or two would go a lot further to reassure people about the condition of the bike.
It's like car ads that specify "original miles." Gotta watch out for those aftermarket miles...

I take the "adult owned" tag to mean that the bike was never locked up outside in the rain, or dropped on the ground in excitement/frustration, or was never ridden with reckless abandon off of curbs, through the mud, etc.

Or maybe that it was ridden by "real" adults, not college or high school students.

I like the ones that say serious inquires only. Like they are tired of prank calls from bored clowns or comedians.

paint over the “fix” matches. That’s really all that counts.

Are tandem MTBs a thing? That seems like one person gets all the fun, really. https://nh.craigslist.org/bik/d/lond...195339054.html
