Ballpark figure for an Ironman?

I’d like to know what a ballpark asking price might be for this 1987 Centurion Ironman Expert (Miami Vice). It will likely be sold with a complete 7-speed RSX groupset. Size is 58cm c-t-c, and other than needing a little touchup, it’s in nice condition. Any ideas on a fair asking price?

ddeand,
Here in L.A. there are quite a few listed over 400.00 and have been on CL for quite a while....250-320 maybe some wherein the middle.
Good Luck, Ben

I likey... but I really likey with the Dura Ace bits on it.

Will the bike still be STI when equipped for sale? If so, feeling like $350 to me. More like $250-$275 if downtube. Just 12 months ago I would have pegged it at $200-$225.

The fact that you’re in Twin Cities and some locales are still working with COVID pricing makes my estimate potentially 100% wrong.

I sold a really nice and original 87 Master for $250 this summer. It was 58cm also. I listed it locally (Portland) for $300 and did not get many inquiries.

Stupidly let a near mint condition one get away last year because I thought it was priced too high at 275.
In retrospect, it really wasn’t...

Or maybe it's more like $50! Just let this auction go for $42. I'm in this area of CT tomorrow and could have picked it up. Not my size but I low-balled it anyway. Was kind of relieved when it went over my max bid. Although it would have been a steal, picking up and flipping is one less hassle to deal with. Someone got a great deal for sure.

Right now it’s set up with 8-speed D-A, but I would swap in the RSX group (7-speed STI). The D-A stuff will go on my next project, although it could stay on the bike. I guess I’ll just toss it out there and see what happens. I might also do the auction site thing, too. Thanks for the input.

It all depends on condition. I've bought and sold several Ironmans including one exactly like the one above. Lowest price ever paid for one was $120. Highest price ever sold one for was $460.

Paid $175 for this one. Converted it to STI drivetrain w/new wheels. (Don't have any before pictures). It's not for sale right now. But, I'd probably take $500 for it.

That's a good looking Ironman.
What is the widest tire you think you can fit on that frame?

25mm

Most of these late 80's Ironman bikes came with skinny little 23mm tires originally. There's not much space in between the forks & stays. The tires on the one pictured above are 25mm Michelin Sport.

That’s what I have on my Ironman, too.

Paid $120 for this one. Sold it for $285 after being completely refurbished. Buyer was thrilled. I kind of miss this one. It fit me perfectly.
