Ah, that's one of the ones that I had looked at, but was thinking about going with something a little more coarse. Speaking of JKI and synths, that 2k Gesshin gets a *lot* of love, and it's finally back in stock.
I'm just primarily using the King KDS 1k/6k that I've had forever and stropping. The 1k side seems fine (though I don't have a reference), but I'm not a fan of the 6k side (through, again, I don't have a reference). I get results, but the feel is vague on the 6k. And yeah, it's budget, so I shouldn't expect too much.
Anyway, I'm just pondering where to go without jumping in too deep and was curious as to your experiences.

For general purpose, it puts a sharp edge on that has enough tooth to deal with pepper skins. Nothing I do seems to warrant a finer finish.
Well... the JKI Gesshin Diamond 6k is

Some air probably got in to the line in shipping. First, try flicking the levers for 20-30 seconds, then give a couple good squeezes and see how it feels. If that doesn't help enough, put the bike in a stand or find a way to orient it so that the brake line is always going up from the caliper to the levers. Flick levers vigorously to encourage the bubbles to get back up in to the reservoir. Turn the handlebars, too, to make sure there isn't a trap where the bubbles would get stuck.
And not quite understanding the braking feel question. Are you talking lever feel or the actual braking/slowing force? If you're talking braking force, the pads will need to bed in to the rotors like they would on a car or motorcycle. Resin pads are pretty decent out of the box. Metallic pads suck out of the box and need more time to bed.

Looks like I am just going to get to do a small family ride tonight. I have to wake up at 3 am to go to work tomorrow, hopefully start putting some miles on it next week.

Water line update. It stopped again and nothing we can do to make it run more than about 20 minutes. My next move is to put some unions in it, so at least I can check it myself, one handed. In utter frustration, a half hour ago I re-connected the old one, still in place. With one end open to check for flow, it is not flowing either. The presumption at this point is insufficient pressure from the street. A mickey mouse system at the best of times. We can fill the cistern from our drilled well, easy peasy, but the quality of that water is questionable, it being only 19 meters deep. If we do that, we will treat the cistern with Clorox.
I might take a swing by the water board tomorrow morning.

For chisels/plane irons, I'll use a guide to reestablish a bevel, but not for quick touch-ups.
edit: though I could use a guide that could do cambers for plane irons. Does the Veritas do that?

Well and there are also people who openly admit to posting in zombies to get their post count up so they can post links/ send PMs/ whatever. Which if I had my way would be bannable.

His 16th post since last July? It was fun reading all the names of members who I remember from back then.

I was riding on the down low because my test wasn’t back yet and I wasn’t supposed to leave the house. So I wanted a route where I’d come upon no one else. And I didn’t, going my direction anyway.
I thought you were planning on bike paths? No way could I have ethically justified that.

With all the miles and time spent strengthening the core lately, my back is telling me to drop a 5mm spacer. However, my extension-limited, rebuilt neck is saying "you'll hit a parked car or pothole at speed because you'll be looking at your pupik." Sad!
Maybe I should work on strengthening my extraocular muscles so I can keep my eyes rolled up.

There was a girl texting and weaving all over, when I got close she drifted hard left. She was holding the phone and bar with her left hand and typing with her right. I would have been shocked but I've seen it before.

Looks like no stealth camping Saturday as night/Sunday morning rain is predicted, but still hoping for a day ride.
