Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One of my club mates has a custom Guru. Looks similar. Very nice!

To me, the feet are a bigger problem than hands. I have wool glove liners from REI or DeFeet liners and I use them under regular fingerless gloves for most cold weather riding. Sometimes I use neoprene and leather long finger gloves and when I lived in the mountains I would carry Gore-Tex ski gloves and put them on for long descents.

The pressure from climbing interferes with the circulation in my feet. I like Merino wool socks with neoprene toe covers but even then sometimes it's a problem. If your feet are freezing you aren't having any fun. I also have some Gore-Tex socks but they don't breathe and I sweat so much in them I only use them in extreme conditions or just carry them until there is a long descent. I had them on one time when my friend and I walked for 2 hours in deep snow trying to find a way out of a canyon we went into.

According to the official Velo Vol mileage spreadsheet, last month I surpassed 75,000 miles since I became a serious cyclist in 2004.

Yah, they’re out of business. The only thing remaining are their fitting systems which is owned by Cannondale’s parent company.

And they have a Rapha bike. I like the elevated chainstay for a gravel bike but I wouldn't spend $8 grand for a bike I'm going to thrash on dirt and rocks.

Today was one of those rides where I set out feelin' mildly ****ty but certain that I'd shake it and feel better after a good warm-up. 66 miles evidently wasn't good enough of a warm-up

I skipped my ride today to do leg day, 170 lb deadlifts, 180 lb squats, walking lunges carrying 100 lbs and then a brutal core circuit that made me want to puke. I have a feeling my ride tomorrow morning is going to suck

Kudos.

I am at a paltry 9419 since July 2012, split between MapMyRide and Strava.

Could prolly add a couple hundred of unrecorded mileage to that, but I know you people wouldn't let that stand.

This explains my problem. I've always been more of a frivolous cyclist.
