Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow! Congrats on getting that done!

One of my previous roles at my job was to calculate pricing for machined parts for our customers, after doing it almost exclusively for two years I've finally gotten a bit of a break from it. Most of the time they are single production runs of a single part number, but every once in a while we get a request for quote on 50+ line items on a multi-year contract and I know how time consuming a big RFP is

I'd probably like quoting a lot more if I had potential bonuses tied to what business we were awarded. If we win jobs that just means more work for me

Not too far. Pre-Covid we would ride near there.

I remember taking the regional rail line during my med school days, and the stop near Villanova went right by the "John Eleuthère du Pont" auditorium/sports building. I imagine they took the name down.

Remember the Tour du Pont? Became the Tour de Trump.

Maybe it was Trump first? Yep.

The race was met by anti-Trump protests in the first-stage finishing town of New Paltz, New York, where demonstrators held placards reading "Fight Trumpism", "Die Yuppie $***", "The Art of the Deal = The Rich Get Richer" and "Trump = Lord of the Flies"

After two editions, Trump withdrew his sponsorship of the race due to his business's financial problems.[1][16] According to Packer, reflecting on the event in 2016, he and Trump "parted as good business friends", although he also explained that Trump's personality and celebrity, as well as the scandals surrounding Trump's marriage and business affairs, distracted from the event and annoyed European riders in the race

DuPont's withdrawal also came months after John DuPont, heir to the Du Pont family fortune, had been arrested for the murder of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz

The bonus is tied to the amount of post award work I’ll have to do. My team will likely grow by 15-20 staff. Most of the deal is centered on access to the analytics platform my team created, but we have to do a significant amount of additional building.

should be fun regardless.

This used to incorporate the Devil’s Kitchen Climb right? The climb so steep pros would get off their bike and walk.

The surgery drama is a piece of cake, the 9-12 months of daily therapy is the part I'm not looking forward to.

Yep it's a liberal town, a college town - SUNY New Paltz.

I remember one year at the annual Halloween parade some young guy came costumed as GW Bush . . . man, he was booed mercilessly . . . they would have started throwing projectiles if not for fear of hitting innocent bystanders.

Speaking of bonus, my ***hole partners voted to sell the practice down the river (I voted against this but was overruled) and I am quite unhappy about this, but the good news is there is likely to be a decent-sized lump sum coming my way in the 4th quarter of this year....and if that happens I might be able to justify some new bike schwag. Maybe the new Dura-Ace groupset will be announced/out by then and I can get the Habby a new drivetrain!

Nope, arthroscopic tendon repair on the rotator cuff. It's hanging on by a couple of threads he says.

Man, that sling looks like it would cause its own issues after not too long. Fingers crossed, and please keep us posted when you’re up to it!

I hope all goes ok and the healing/therapy is not too drawn out. The shoulder is a tough joint.

My driveway is "just" 25% but I've never tried to mess with that.

Positive thoughts, Bill! You getting some new used cadaver bits, or are they going a different route? A friend went down hard, and it took a Vail doctor to get him going, using stuff from other people.

It's getting in bed with the devil, possibly.

The company is owned by a big insurance company. The whole thing is a mess but I will do my best to ride it out and hope it works out ok. This is my first job since residency and I have been here for almost 20 years, I don't really want to have to make a big change.
