an OT question - if you are in Saugus how did you ever get enough water to have those weeds growing so nicely in the pavement seams?
I'm in the Massachusetts Saugus, not the one in CA., lots of weeds here , would be a full-time job to stay ahead of them! :-)

Somewhere between 20 and 21 lbs. with the Dura-Ace group, Open Pro wheels/Ultegra hubs, vintage Dura-Ace aero seatpost, Speedplay X-2 pedals. 3TTT stem and bars, vintage Stronglight A9 headset.

Mavic MA-40 rims on unbranded hubs with Specialized QRs. They were built by Wheelsmith.

They spin like butter.

Here it is Nov 2, 45F, sunny and I'm riding the 760 here in northern lower Michigan. This bike will make the upcoming winter agonizingly long. The ride is absolutely wonderful. Maybe some will recall my threads on the Cdale Crit this last summer and how I love the light and stiff ride. Well, getting on the 760 feels every bit as light but is comparable to changing from your running shoes into bedroom slippers....that you can still run very fast with if you have to.

I'll get out with my 7yr old grandson later.

Are you saying it's going to be a long winter because you're not going to ride the 760? I'm about to put mine away till Spring. I still got to take some photos. It's on the dirty side from some recent rain rides, though.

A 1984 Trek 770 that I bought off CL. Ultimately proved to be too big for me, so I gave it to a friend who rebuilt it for himself. Told me he's already put about 1500 miles on it, so it went to a great home.

Just found a 760 project bike on CL and purchased it. It is an 84 based on the SN but I don't have a clue on the braze date. Where would I find that?
The bike was far from complete but had the following:
1974 Record RD
about the same vintage FD
Earlier DT shifters
Record BB with Shimano 600 cranks
Newer calipers with script Campagnolo
Super Record Post
Cinelli bars with the early logos
Unkown stem
Diacomp Brake levers.
Fiame hoops and Tipo hubs and skewers (fairly true) with some very old Tubulars.
Super Record headset
Rattle canned black with the top ST sticker masked as well as the Reynolds sticker and Campy sticker on the bottom of the ST.
The fork is a unicrown of some manufacture (bummer). The TT and DT are straight - no bend or buckle.

No cables, saddle, chain, pedals, or freewheel. The brake calipers are missing the adjustment barrels. The seller said he would look for them.

I think it is a 60 or 58. Pics to follow some time. It is a mess and has been sitting around for awhile.

Exactly (my composition skills lack....skill). The 760 will hang on hooks in the small sunroom-turned-bikeroom. We have had winters of late/little snow and even 50s-60s over Christmas and New Years. If we get a winter like that, my grandson and I will ride.

Go to the vintage trek site on this page Vintage Trek Bicycle Frame Serial Numbers, bike find where your serial number fits and click on that serial number/link. You will find the braze date.

I would have had a difficult time getting that out of my sight. Bummer it was too big. You did good giving it to someone that will care for it.

@OldsCOOL - Velocals has 1985 but I am not sure about 1984. A quick search says no. Might get close with sku 134 and 111 on the Velocals sight.

And a good clearcoat to seal them up. My '86 and the '85 both had a rather thick coat of clear protecting them.

Good to know about the Campy NR. I've definitely been told different things. 26t as maximum is general consensus.

I've read the same but mine works fine with a little adjusting. Since this is my collector bike and only for town, the wheels stay with the '88 Cdale Criterium.

The braze date is the date you find in the SN when looking at the chart at VintageTrek. How is the project coming along?

Stripped my 760 today for an OA bath (at least for the top tube), and annual touch up. It wound up being ridden on a number of rain soaked days last year, as well as on many dusty rail trails. The seat side of the top tube was getting rusty from the brake line movements. It needed a little spa time. I'm going to see if the budget will allow for a professional respray (if not this year then next year). I'm also thinking of going 5800 with it, but not so sure on that either. It's been "modernized" for awhile, so might as well keep it fully modern.
