10 Sp. Cassette question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

10 Sp. Cassette question

So I just bought a 10 speed cassette on ebay and it arrived today. I was installing it on my (brand new if it matters) aksium race wheel and was just starting to tighten the lockring, when I noticed that it (the cassette) seemed to be slowing the hub... any ideas?

Here's the configuration from hub to spoke end:

Grouped cog, cog, spacer, cog, spacer, cog, spacer, cog, spacer, cog, cog, metal spacer, cog, lockring.

Sound right?

This might be a stupid question, but I've gone over budget already, and I'm freaking out a little if things don't go right...

This is a Shimano/SRAM freehub, right?

Did your wheels come with a Mavic spacer?

what cassette? shimano or sram? if its shimano, you still need to put on the included 1mm spacer in addition to the mavic spacer

Grouped cog, cog, spacer, cog, spacer, cog, spacer, cog, spacer, cog, cog, metal spacer, cog, lockring. That's not suppose to be there. is it a thin film spacer? if so that is suppose to go on the lockring

Sorry about that! I do have a Mavic spacer - the metal spacer I listed actually came with the cassette (shimano - sorry I forgot to list that)

Thanks for the responses!

Put the Mavic spacer on the freehub first, then the actual cassette.

You need to use the Mavic supplied spacer because the freehub on Mavic wheels is not actually "Shimano" it's M10 with weird Mavic spacing.

I put the mavic spacer on, then slipped the cassette on and everything is perfect now! Thanks so much!

NP; if you ever take the bike in for wrenching, make sure the mechanic is not a bonehead and loses the spacer.
