Trek FX frame tube shapes

does any one know what year they switched from "round" tubes to "shaped" tubes?

My guess would be to address frame flex. With an ovalized tube you can increase the stiffness at the contact point (lets say BB) so that the right and left bb deflection is reduced on the axis you want it reduced.

I believe he wishes to know when Trek switched to their oval-ish tubes from the round ones. I don't know - but my FX 7.5 frame is from 2007 and is oval-ish. Any other folks out there have an earlier FX?

Looking through the Trek Bike Archives, it seems that they started transitioning some of the FX models around 2006 with the new frame types becoming more prominent across the line as time went on.

Don't worry. It was an excellent answer to the question that you thought was asked.

2006 is the answer then. Thanks. I was using bikepedia pictures as references and they weren't exactly accurate.

That is also when they changed the naming convention from 7nnnFX to 7.nFX.
